They're usually all show and no GO. Seriously, a Honda Civic with a big wing on the trunk? Carbon fibre doors/hood on a $4000 car? A gigantic pipe out the back of a car with maybe 100hp in it? Oh, and the thumping of the trunk-mounted sub-woofer that is making every panel in the car vibrate, and you can hear the buzzing of the panels over the sound of the engine? Puh-leeeze.

I'd rather take a 1.8T Passat, chip it to 220hp, put eibach springs on it, 17" rims with low profile tires and a K&N air kit and blow all their doors off.

But whatever floats your boat. I guess the Civic is the Chevy Nova of today's youth.

You just say that cuz you have a passat

Nah, I agree bout the civic but dude, what about the other ricers?
To me a civic is nothing better than a VW golf or jetta, which are all pieces of crap. Take, for example, acura intergra gs-r which is 1.8 with 195 horses. Now that thing you can is something else. Or maybe the acura rsx type s, which has 210 hp. Don't need much chipin there.

Some ricers have been well executed, but as I said, most are pretty garishly done and look stupid.

But drive a Jetta and then a Civic... light night and day, my dear. The fit and finish of the VeeDub interior is equal to Audi (parent co. btw) and Audi do the best interiors in the biz.

I'm not down on Japanese cars though. They make the best, dollar for dollar, althought with somewhat less than inspiring design trends and handling. I prefer European cars, with the Germanic brands at the top of my list.

The jetta and civic are different but then again, the civic's top price is around $19 grand and the jetta's is $24 grand. So pricewise you can't even compare the two.

Bottom line: Cars rule

My favorites in a particular order. 460 Modena, BMW M3, Porsche Cayenne (can't tell if it's a Cayenne S or Turbo). I'm not a particular fan of tuners, mostly just exotics.

Tell me about it. I'd rather take a F430 or a Lambo and throw a Tubi exhaust on it. That my friends is a car. I think a Tubi would make just about any car awesome.

You know, I used to LOVE Lamborghini and while the Murcilago is impressive, to me it's now associated with gangsta rappers, so the shine is gone. The Gallardo to me is a VW test bed, nothing more. The only Lambos that interest me these days are the pre-1976 cars.

However, Ferrari will always be stunning. The F430 is stunning. The only dark period Ferrari ever had for road cars was from about 1974 to 1979, design wise. And even still, that period gave us the 512 boxer and the 308.

Tyler, stick to the basics, Rolex, Ferrari... you can't ever go wrong.

Hey OysterGirl:
I like all those cars except maybe the Ricers.

I have a question. Where in NYC, a metropolis of a squillion vehicles do you get the chance to open e'm up for more than a few yards?

We have roads here that run for days, sometimes in only one direction with any curves. Great opportunity do really see what they can do.

My fav is the Bugatti Veyron.

Cheers Steve

Bugatti Dream

Hey Mailman, Glad you like the Veyron too. Here it is for those who haven't seen one:

In the Northern Territory of Australia you could use all 1000 hp of the W16 multi turbocharged engine and travel at warp speed!!!

Steve

BTW, I own a 2005 Golf diesel! The Hare and the Tortoise comparison!!

Veyron = 280+mph [cruise 200mph]

VW Golf Diesel 100+mph [cruise 70mph] BUT 600 miles on one tank of fuel.

There was a review of the Veyron in last month's Road & Track magazine.

Wicked indeed. I'd LOVE one, assuming I can physically fit inside it (and afford it.... NOT).

Hi Tardis,

That is one cool looking car. You guys in Australia are lucky that you still have places with NO speed limit. Nothing like that here in NZ.
