DJ41 vs Sky Dweller

Looking for advice, on a dress(ier) piece especially from those who happen to own both.
I had been offered a TT SkyD back in 2018 but passed mainly because of the perceived size of the piece (champagne dial iirc). Oyster bracelet didn't help either, I guess.
Had the 126334 on jubilee, sunburst blue, stick dial which was unfortunately stolen.

I'm considering the following options as I love blue sticks+fluted+jubilee:

1. Replace exactly what was lost.
2. Same DJ41 but with the new motif blue dial
3. SkyD blue on Jubilee

Granted I might not be given the chance to try the SkyD, does the darker dial on the jubilee feel / wear a little smaller and comparable to the DJ41?
Does the thickness rule it out as a somewhat dressier option?

7,25" flat wrist

Other pieces : 126610LN/BB GMT

Thanks

I used to have a DJ41 and now have a Blue skydweller on oyster.
The DJ41 is definitely a bit smaller and less thicker than the skydweller.

If the GMT function is not important for you and you are paying grey pricing for the Skydweller, then I would go for the DJ41.

If, however your getting both from the AD, then I would go for the skydweller.
With your wrist size the Skydweller will fit perfectly.

Thanks, forgot to add, whatever the choice, it will be sourced from AD.

I do still have a use for GMT although no longer vital. I do fancy a DJ with a...twist though.

How well does the SkyD fit under a shirt's cuff?

I will, if it really fits the purpose.

I don't have a DJ because the Sky Dweller, for me, renders it unnecessary, the caveat being that I love the Sky Dweller. It's big for a Rolex but not big per se. I have a SS black and a TT white and they wear very comfortably on my 6.5" wrist. Apart from its user friendliness and ease of use, I like its stealth - it could be a DJ from a distance or at a quick glance. I have nothing against the DJ. If I found the Sky Dweller to be unsuitable for me I would have bought a DJ or two long ago.

I'm waiting for a SS blue on Jubilee. It's different enough from the black on Oyster, and sufficiently beautiful to earn a place in my collection - if I live long enough! With the demo models now in ADs you will probably be able to try one for real. I thought it would be too big for me, but I was able to try on a TT Champagne model at my AD. It worked for style, comfort and fit, but not visually. There was too much YG on it for me but I was able to confirm that I would get on with one in a different configuration.

I have 7.25” wrists too. I think I’d go with the DJ41. It wears a lot smaller than the SkyD.

I’ve just decided I’m not getting another watch as big as my 42mm Seamaster Diver 300m which wears similarly to a SkyD.

Skydweller renders datejust completely unnecessary.

Thanks for this, it really helps. TT champagne didn't work for me either. Somewhat of a near miss I guess. That's why I'm thinking a SS jubilee with a darker dial could be spot on.

Seems I'll have to try one on before asking firm from my AD.
42 mm is as big as I'm willing to go. And the smaller that wears, the better.

Yes. Try it on before deciding.

That would be ideal. Either the exact one or something very similar. Good opportunity for an extra AD visit...

Honestly, the DJ41 felt spot on. Just a tiny bit bigger and it would have been too much for my tastes. But the busier dial of the SkyD, especially the darker one, perhaps could make things work in a SS / Jubilee configuration...

You should be able to find an AD with an exhibition Sky Dweller - May not be blue dial but will give you an idea of fit. But you may be waiting a very long time to get it from an AD.

That's what I'm thinking.

I don't mind waiting.

Datejust blue sticks + flated + jubilee. It has a cleaner dial, is a smaller and more comfortable watch.

I agree. Still intrigued by the SkyD complication though. Will try one on first and decide whether to pony up the extra cash or simply re-purchase the DJ41...

Time to turn a new leaf. Get the SkyD. If you get the exact same DJ that you had before, every time you look at it you will be reminded of an unpleasant past.

You do have a valid point. In fact that's, in part, what triggered my question in the first place.
At times, I find myself badly missimg my DJ; didn't get to enjoy it enough and then it was gone. And want it back, somehow.
But on the other hand I'm not sure what my feelings would be if we ever were to be reunited. Either with the particular piece or with the reference.
So here's where the SkyD comes in. Price difference is one concern to overcome but this one usually goes away just as I hit the ok button for the wire transfer My biggest concern is the size and fit if that works, I'll ask the AD to register my interest.

Thank you very much for the pics. Dial / case diameter differences do not seem chaotic, which is encouraging.
Case thickness per se isn't an issue as I have a BB GMT. But it could be an issue on such a watch if I would like to say, slide it under a cuff. Because that's my plan for it; to play the role of my dressier piece...

I had a datejust ii before purchasing my white steel sky dweller, which I sold immediately after because it was very similar.

After adding four sky dwellers (lol) I still bought a dj41, in TT. I wear the skyD and the datejust 41 and feel they’re very different.

If for a dressier piece, 100% a Datejust because of the size and thickness.

Two totally different feels. But if you’re going for the “dressier” look, then I would say DJ

The sky dweller is a VERY busy watch, especially in blue. That is my impression of it when I wear it, though I never owned the blue reference. You have to accept that and like it. The Dj is just clean. Both are nice, tho.

Get the SkyD blue. To the WIS community there is no comparison. To the other 99 percent of the population there is no difference between the skyD and DJ41.

Most might not know the difference between a Rolex or a timex. But all that matters is what puts a smile on your face every time you wear it. And for me the Dj41 can never make me as happy as my SkyD.

i agree that the SkyD in jubilee and darker dial looks smaller than the bright dial or with oyster bracelet. I would take DJ41 for everyday wear though for more comfort sake.

SkD is superior in my opinion:
-you get GMT + annual calendar for 1mm diameter more and 1mm thickness
-dial is more busy, but in my opinion the DJ41 dial feels a bit off, too much empty space

If you can only get a DJ at AD, go for it, grab a SkyD whenever you can to remplace. (I would trade the DJ41 for a 36 to get the full classic look)
