In any case, the moral of the story, to me, is be a nice guy and good things may happen to you in return!

Sorry Dan I don’t understand your post? The AD (Authorized Dealer) is the owner of the business, not an employee and there were no lists? No one flipped anything. The owner traded a new watch direct to my friend for services.

Your moral is true. Be nice and good things will happen to you!

It’s good to be a Rolex AD’s repairman!

This also punctuates waiting on a list for a watch for msrp is also not without it’s ironic twists and additional complications.

Some got skills,
Some got connections,
Some got lucky,
Some got cash.
Some get it for free.

My AD told me this outright. They do keep a list, but sell to whomever they want.

Very similar story I am a pilot for a major USA based legacy airline and stop in from time to time at local AD. To make the story short manager asked if I could get tickets at a lower cost but unfortunately I can't, however I did get him and family upgraded to first class round trip. When your flying from Boston to Honolulu being in first class makes a huge difference in comfort. A few months after his return I asked if he could get me a GMT Master ll (BLNR) in 3 weeks it was on my wrist.

There’s a certain social equity in the repairman story. He didn’t go into either situation looking to acquire a Daytona. He has technical skills and knowledge that were of value and forged a relationship with the AD that paid off in an unexpected way. As I see it he earned those Daytona’s.
