Resale value of Cartier Roadster XL?

Does anyone have any experience with this watch? I'm looking at the Roadster XL Chrono and I'm wondering if I should buy BNIB (with discount) or pre-owned.

From what little research I've done, substantial discounts can be had and I do like the look of the 47mm case!

All depends on the discount but a good condition pre-owned is he way to go. Cartier holds value well, but unless you get a great discount off new, buy used. IMHO.

Definitely pre-owned if you find one in great condition.

I bought mine about a year ago pre-owned. It was in near perfect condition. I paid less than half of the MSRP of a new one. With the $ I saved, I was able to purchase a few interchangeable straps....perfect for different looks.

Love the watch and now wear it regularly in rotation. I would highly recommend getting one if you find the right deal.

Stunning watch Brian.

How does it wear on the wrist? I have relatively thin wrists (more rounded and not flat on top, approx 6 3/4") and seems like it would wear fairly large on my wrist. What is the case diameter and thickness?

Thanks for the compliment Adam!

I have relatively small wrists as well. As a matter of fact, I think my wrist may be even a touch smaller than yours at 6 3/4". Although the dimensions of the Roadster are larger (both in length and thickness) than my Submariner, it suprisingly does not wear bigger. I think the reason is that the Roadster has a curved case which forms to the wrist. Although it is a slight curve, it is significant enough to make a substantial difference in comfort and wearability.

The only difference I notice is in the weight. I don't have the exact weight stats, but it is a little heavier than the Sub....when on the steele bracelet. When it is on a leather strap, it becomes about the most comfortable watch I own.

Long story short, this watch should look and feel like a million bucks on your wrist!

Brian, thanks for the feedback. It looks great on your wrist. I have a SS Sub and SS Daytona. Both a very comfortable to wear, especially the Daytona. I don't mind larger diameter watches, as long as they are not super thick and clunky. There is a Cartier Boutique and AD close by. The best thing for me to do is go try one on. If I like it, then my plan is to find a good deal on a pre-owned model.

Adam,

I agree with your plan of action. Nothing helps the decision making process like seeing the piece firsthand....or wrist, as is the case here. I really think you will like the versatility of the Roadster due to their strap exchange sytem. You literally need no tools and about 10 seconds to switch bands. So, it becomes very easy to give your watch a totally diffrent look at a moments notice. I have a burgandy, blue, tan, and black strap in addition to the metal. It almost feels like you have several diffrent watches by simply changing the band.

Good luck with your decision and let us know how it works out for you!

I had a few Panerai watches and loved being able to change the look just by switching straps. It comes with two straps (plus the bracelet), right? How much do extra straps cost? I absolutely agree with you on the versatility of the Roadster. Hopefully I can get out to the Boutique to try it on this weekend or perhaps next weekend. I am leaning towards the black dial. If I like it, the key will be finding a good deal on a pre-owned model. I'll keep you posted.

Cartiers are like Saabs when it comes to residual value. If I were in your situation, my preference would be for pre-owned and consideration for a new one, BNIB would only be extended if, I were certain this one was a keeper and I was paying approximately 55% of retail.

You can change the band out in less than 5 seconds. One watch that can give you any you want.

Stainless steel band for anytime:

Black nylon band for sportier look:

Brown leather band for classier affairs:

Red alligator band to really change things up:

The watch comes with 3 bands included when you buy it.

I really love mine as well. I like what Cartier did with the strap change. It’s coolsystem.
