Both. No question at all. I mean brown shoes- vs black shoes. Gotta match the watch. :)

Rg, Jorge's power watch theory. I see no issue with both though. How many subs you have etc

Two completely different looks. As a result, owning both is required.

From a collector standpoint, I understand the steel version is the original 5164

From a practical standpoint, if I owned both I would hardly wear the steel. I would invariably grab the 5164r for the more substantial feel and the (IMO) warmer color scheme

Steel for me as that's the one I would wear more often. I like the RG look, but in practicality, I would seldom wear it.

I generally prefer white metals, so I went 5164a, but both are great watches

Two winners. I would take the 5711/1r over either but I realize that was a suggestion and not your pic

Money no object I'd have the R.

Rose gold versus steel.

Sometimes you want gold, other times you don't. Justified!

I’ve owned both before and I think the gold offers a different enough look to say both could work together. If it were me though (and it was recently) I’d sell one and pick something else up. Here’s the one that made the cut (the dial might’ve influenced a little :)

Having the A and R is a little too much IMO, but would definitely upgrade to R and sell A, I saw all Aquanauts in SS and in R, in R both are stunning, in SS I find them very nice but nothing more, I don't think I would have kept it in SS, but in RG they are really wow...

Prefer the SS look for Aquanauts. More sporty and under radar for holiday

The 5164R and 5711/1r are somehow the same price so I'd take this for sure.

That's overkill.

Do you limit your collection to Patek and Rolex? This might be a good time to try another brand, if so.

Thank you all for your responses. This is a clear example of why when traveling internationally, taking Ambien and posting should be avoided. While my question was one I had pondered I was far from being at the point of possibly proceeding. Thanks once again and cheers!

For you I'd say both since black and brown shoes need both watches to choose from but if only spending small then the R no question. Easy to wear since doesn't have full bracelet. No worries on really scratching it up since you are used to wearing watches that require wrist awareness. That 5164R is a beast of a watch!

There is nothing like the Patek RG in my opinion.

The issue I have with the 5164R, and I liked it a lot when trying it on, is that at that price are you sure there’s nothing else you’d prefer? Especially if you already have one, there’s a lot of options out there!

Thanks for the suggestion but not really about getting noticed. All of my higher end pieces are in white metals for no other reason then I prefer it generally. My interest in this particular RG is having failed to find an OF Rolex Daytona that appealed to me I thought the mixed medium of Rubber and rose might be nice.

If I want to be noticed I could find plenty of "bling" brands. I know it's been said before but PP is only an attention getter on this esteemed site.

I am in the quandary you describe. I think I am on hold for now.
