RWT - No need to buy anything... and lets not go where you are insinuating once again... no need and no further discussion on that thanks.
Just going by what the rolex service dept. told me as they tried to explain in laymans terms and not get too technical, but of course they may have just meant a cracked jewel or some gunk getting to the staff, a dodgy pivot, faulty metal in the original supply of staffs, aliens, french air traffic controllers industrial action, who knows-who cares- its fixed now and runs like a dream if you like i'll give you their email and you can ask them yourself. After a week it ran real slow and the service centre sent it for a complete new movement under their original repair guarrantee |

Right, replacing a staff does not necessarily mean the staff broke.
I"m just telling you, they don't break without a shock of some magnitude. It won't happen. It wouldn't even happen on an old one without shock jewels. It could wear...it could mushroom a pivot from lack of lubrication...it could have been polished mulitiple times and no longer be within tolerances......many conditions with a staff but breaking in two...is not going to happen without shock. |

She's back!
Quick update everyone...I received the serviced watch today. It is keeping excellent time and has been pressure tested as well so I can wear it with more assurance. While it was at the spa to be serviced, I managed to nab a NOS pearl to replace the slightly damaged one that came with the watch so there has been a cosmetic improvement as well. Before and after pics below.
Thanks for all who helped with their guidance and recommendations. |

Looks great and thanks for posting an update.....perhaps at the end of the day you should regard the breakdown as a blessing......it seems to have worked out fine in the end.

Yes, exactly what was quoted (approx USD 1100). This included me asking them to change the pearl with the supplied replacement, polish the crystal, waterproof + pressure test, testing watch for accuracy etc. No extra parts were needed because they took a couple of weeks to first check the parts that needed replacement and their cost.
