New to me Tudor 94010 Snowflake

This watch belonged to my Wife's Father, it had been packed away for 15 years but she recently gave it to me...she must love me...

I've talked to her mother in regards to it's history. She doesn't remember the exact date but says the watch was purchased in the early 80's. I do have photos of it with my wife as a young child so I can verify he had it when she was 2-4 years old and she was born in '78. There are only half a dozen photo's I've seen from the era so it's the best I can do.

I have sent some photo's privately to one of the serial number database individuals as it does not seem to fit into what is widely regarded as the proper serial number range, but I have been assured by my Mother in law that this is the face the watch had when purchased.

It is a snowflake, 94010 and has a 5 digit serial number 15XXX. There are HUGE gaps in the serial number database, this fills it in a bit.

It isn't the prettiest, and I had to polish the crystal as it was almost readable due to scratches when I received it, but I'm loving it. Ghost bezel, sadly with a few scratches...but I'll wear it proudly!

Was he Canadian Military by any chance?

Would like to see better photos - maybe some dial issues above 9pm and maybe long second hand -but could just be the photo.

Now you can be a caretaker for Grandpa's watch. Light cleaning, service, no changes to dial or hands, pass it off to your kids and their kids. If you decide to do anything more than basic seal & surface, ask for recommendations - you don't need to follow them but you will get opinions from a collector's perspective.

I don't believe it was a military watch, he was a police officer. Wouldn't a military watch have an engraving on the back?

I worry about having it serviced as I have read lots of posts where the face and hands are replaced, I'd hate to lose the originality of the watch. I prefer it look old...like me!

There are dial issues, above the 9 it's a bit discolored, a few other places...it's far from a new watch.

The second hand seems long because of the camera angle, it overlaps the minute marker by about a mm ish.

I'm going to keep the crystal as is, I did polish it which causes a bit of distortion here and there due to deep scratches but it's wearable. Prior to the polishing the crystal was so bad some areas were totally hidden.

Well service the movement, and leave the rest as is.

It's a great piece and I too would be proud to wear it.

You might have heard some horror stories of the Rolex Service Centers replacing dials and hands, but now with the vintage Tudors, Rolex doesn't any longer service them. You would have to send it to be serviced by one of the trusted watchmakers here on the forum, or even from a local trusted watchmaker, local to yourself.

The ETA movement that your Tudor has is a workhorse and a good movement. But since it is mechanical, it really should be serviced to properly get all of the moving parts moving as they should after 15 or more years.

What Dan is suggesting is get the movement serviced, get new seals because the old ones might have started to deteriorate, and replace the crystal, while keeping the original. Not only will it be scratch free, but will then be pressure tested so that the case is sure to be tightly sealed.

Sorry to revive an old thread.

I have recently bought a Tudor snowflake 9411/0 and my local watchmaker has told me that the original crystal is not fully sealed anymore.

May I know what crystal I should be looking out for? Must I get the original T-19 plexi or is there a better alternative?

I'm located in Singapore btw.
