5167 or 5522

I want to make this simple. My AD has given me the opportunity to purchase one of his 5522 alotmnets. Should I go for it, given that I would have to sell my 5167 to fund the purchase? I love the pictures of the 5522, but worry about the lack of date.

you can always get another 5167 if you don't love the 5522. So i would get it. Its not like you will lose money if you want to unload it in the future to get your 5167 back.

Tough call as I think the 5167 is a better daily than the 5522 given the date and water resistance.

Do you have anything else in the rotation?

I have a Panerai, Green Sub, Yellow Gold Sub, Planet Ocean and Tag Carrera, in my rotation with the 5167.

i would flip the YG sub before i flipped the 5167 or maybe the green sub. Id probably keep the others just because resale won't be that great.

I would make my best effort to keep the green sub, 5167 and add the 5522a. If not do it regardless

Not really a fan of 5522, so if it is to wear keep 5167, if it is to wear and maybe make money one day then 5522, I just can't find it interesting enough, but that's just me, regardless of taste or design, still an interesting watch

I really like the 5522 as a timepiece. I saw it in person at the exhibition and felt it was a little larger than I'd like and there was a lot of negative space on the dial but I'd still buy it if I had the chance. However, be careful you are not being swept up in the hype for a limited piece purely because it's limited, the post-exhibition hype, etc. That's what the intention is...to generate interest.

By all means buy it but be careful of what you give up to do so in case the excitement wears off and you regret it (at least you'll probably not lose your shirt but you might lose a piece with sentimental value or suchlike). That being said, I'd keep the 5167 and punt one or two of your other pieces but that's purely subjective. The color of the 5522 might restrict it's versatility whereas the 5167 goes with pretty much anything.

I always think the same things when I read these posts...if you have to ask it means you are not sure which means it might not be the best move.

i like the 5167 better, but i see little risk in taking the 5522 and flipping it to get the aquanaut back later on if you decide you liked it better

It's a tough one, I slightly prefer the Aqua but the 5522 is interesting, might be worth it for a change.

I agree with Tyler. Another option is to take the 5522 and offload much of the collection to keep the 5167. A two piece Patek Philippe collection is no bad thing!

Keep the 5167 and off load all the others. Much easier to get another contemporary Rolex than a 5522 allocation.

Kingofthehill is right... 2 pateks make a nice manageable collection plus those 2 are easy to wear pieces
