Money no object would be PP, AL&S or something along those lines FP Journe perhaps, whatever I picked, it would be very simple with 2 or 3 hands and no date.

I own this, so probably this one.

Yup, as I mentioned a few posts up, Patek 5196 for me (any of them), but this JLC would be a close second. Beautiful watch you have there, Dave.

The likelihood of my being invited to a black tie event is about as likely as my winning the lottery, which I don't play, but if such an opportunity arose, I would wear this Hamilton Ross, ca. 1939, which I own.

I came very close to purchasing that model. Just a beautiful watch, very subtle. GREAT choice! I'm jealous, Dave.

Easy choice for me. Simple yet complex, traditional yet modern, and with a unique complication.

I attended a black tie gala in NYC last year, thrown by an old Wall Street cronie from my Goldman Sachs days. Armani tux and my 16710 BLRO.

My 40mm DD but if I had a Daytona Rainbow I'd wear that!

This would be my choice. Saw it in the flesh once, pictures don’t do it justice and the minute repeater is magical music.

Black tie means no watch should be worn.

It's rude to the host because wearing a watch indicates that your time is more important than interacting with them.

This is how I was taught so I could never wear one but nowadays it seems the opposite. The bigger and flashier the better, contradicting with everything black tie is all about.
I always laugh in silence seeing that. Ceramic bezels and Oyster bracelets, the horror.

Guess I forgot to move up to 2020

It's a free world so if you must, a nice three hander only on black leather.
