Dial change possible?
I bought a two tone Datejust 2 in December, 2014. While I was originally enthusiastic about the dial, I am just not bonding with it.
I thought of buying a new dial and having it installed. I called Rolex Service in New York. They told me they would change the dial at a regular service in five years, but not for my aesthetic decision change. I could sell or trade in my watch, but I don't want to take a bath. Anyone have any other ideas? |

Buy a replacement dial and have the watchmaker of your choice replace, and retest seals. Be advised that if the dial is not authentic or correct for your model, that rolex may not service the watch and if they decide otherwise, they most likely will charge you for a new dial that is correct for your model. Ergo if you want to have it serviced by rolex, change back to your original dial before sending it in.

Buying a new dial (especially if you keep the original) and getting it installed might be as costly as flipping the watch for one you like.

My local AD charges $200 to change the dial. They are Rolex certified and he will do it as long as the watch doesn't need to be serviced.

I know other guys here have had new dials swapped in by RSC, and lost their current ones, on request. Try them again or the other RSCs in US.

On the other hand if you source a dial and have a watchmaker do the change (I've done this on a dj II i have since flipped, watchmaker charged $100) you could sell your current dial on the bay and only be out a couple hundred bucks....

Hate to be such a newbie, but where does one buy an authentic Rolex dial? Ebay scares me.

Rolex will give you the run around on this issue. It's pretty comical. Read the thread above for info about dial swaps on the DJII and some calls I made to all the RSCs in the US. I actually swapped out my white stick dial for a blue stick dial on my 116300. I sourced the dial and had an independent do the work. Cost me $500 total. PM me if you want the details. |
