Finally took the leap and acquired a DJ 16200 Rhodium for my first.

Always thought it was too small for my 7" wrist, but I was proven wrong just within seconds after wearing it.

Love the legibility almost under any lighting condition (where there is light, that is

), the faint almost imperceptible chiming of the hairspring with each tick, and the instantaneous date change!

There's just one "issue" though; it is slightly magnetized (it deflects a compass needle by around 10 degrees when the magnetized side is nearest the compass needle it attracts), and it is running around +11.7 s/d. Not sure if there's a correlation - it seems that there is - but will post an update on this after I have this de-magnetized (I'm currently reading on the effects of magnetism on movements with the parachrom hairspring, and the difference between a 3135 with the non-blue parachrom hairspring and the parachrom-blue hairspring, which is a bit unclear since Rolex has indicated that the earlier parachrom hairsprings were not blue, but at the same time indicated that the "chrom" refers to the color of the material).

As for myself, I admire these mechanical marvels, starting with late 1890's and early 1900's pocket watches to their more modern descendants. The discussions and replies I give tend to become technical - of which I shall do my best to inhibit from indulging (almost did in the prior paragraph

) as I learn more from the more-experienced members in this forum.

UPDATE: de-magnetization had no effect in timing, but it did remove the magnetization (watch is no longer deflecting a compass needle, but the daily rate wasn't changed); looks like the non-blue parachrom hairspring is indeed immune to magnetic fields after all.
After that, the technician regulated the watch, and it is now down to +0.0 s/d on the wrist.

Update 1: had my Rolex technician/friend regulate the watch and he was able to bring it to around 0.0 s/d! His diagnosis was over-all good: healthy amplitude, 4 sec positional deviation, intact center post Though he remarked that the oils on the escape wheel teeth have started to dry up.

Update 2: the rate began to decline to -1 s/d after a month. Still within Rolex's specs, but decided to have it checked by my technician. He says the amplitude remains the same, but the oils on the escape wheel teeth may need to be replenished. So I asked him to service the watch, watching him take the watch apart piece by piece. After dismantling, cleaning, and re-assembling the watch, using specific oils for specific jewels and other areas, he regulated the watch to 0.5 s/d on the machine. He asked me to observe the rate for about a week or a month before deciding to bring it down to "0".

Update 3: In an unfortunate timing of events, my friend technician has passed away just a week short of me returning the watch for final regulation. The horology world (and Rolex) has just lost a good horologist.

P.S. The watch is still running at +0.5 s/d consistently on the wrist (same as his machine readings).
