Considering purchasing my first luxury pen
I am considering purchasing my first luxury pen. I am not too familiar with the different types outside of Montblanc. Any suggestions on a particular Montblanc model or any other brands for a first time luxury pen buyer?
Thanks! |

Why not visit your nearest MB boutique?
MB pens ranges from their traditional iconic cigar shaped Meisterstucks in a whole family of sizes & colours, to the dozens of different limited editions & odd other commemorative models they offer. |

Lots and lots of suggestions if you are talking fountain pens. If ball points or roller ball pens then the make really is far less important.
So first question is what type of pen do you want? |

Can't go wrong with the Mont Blanc. Go to the store and try them out. I prefer the Rollerball over the Ballpoint but you will have to see. For a first I would buy a Classic.

Don't do it!!!
Back off, take a deep breath, and RUN! And know that if you do pull that proverbial "trigger".... you will be addicted as we all are. And 20 years down the road, you will be living in a refrigerator box enjoying a $44000.00 pen collection and eating Taco Bell beans out of a dumpster! Run Forest... RUN!!!

Haha this made me laugh and is so true. I'll be in the same boat when I'm older but I'll have a nice collection of pens and watches haha.

Although not a pen maker by trade (some would argue not a watchmaker either) I like a lot of the Cartier pens. They have a nice weight and feel good. Others like Montegrappa or S.T. DuPont among others

Have you seen the "Their Greatest" collection from Mont Blanc? Some nice pens to chose from in that collection which has only just been released.

Pens are definitely a slippery slope. There are some that are super expensive, but for the most part pretty affordable unlike most watches. So you might wait years to get that one watch that’s 8-10 grand, but you can go get a nice pen for 5 or 6 hundred which makes it easy to go overboard. I have several Montblanc pens that are in that range, but have many more that are in the $50-100 range that I like just as much.

I have several MB and about as many Waterman pens. One I recently got is a Shaffer fountain pen. I picked up the Ferrari Scuderia, nice pen and only about $80.

A LeGrand Rollerball in platinum or gold is a good choice. Depending on how deep your pockets are.....David Oscarson makes some AMAZING pens!!

Do NOT believe the spell checker. DuPont is chemicals; ST Dupont is heaven.

Montblancs are ok, but why don't you consider some other pens, like a Pelikan M800 or M1000, a Parker Duofold Centennial, or a Sailor King of Pens Ebonite ?
