31mm is def more popular right now. I got my wife a 26mm 2 years ago since I figured it might be her one and only for a long time.

Thanks to everyone for the excellent input and advice. I will decide in the next couple of days, and then go forward. Once I get it, I will post what I decided on. Thanks, again.

I am looking at similar watch, SS, jubilee band, MoP face with diamonds for numbers. I am really a petite person, small hands...believe the watch to be 26mm, so like the OP should I really consider the 31mm instead? Anything larger would be trendy and not my style. My ring size is about a 4. I'm having a hard time deciding on size and band (jubilee or oyster) for the datejust.

Between the two, definitely the 31mm.

At AD yesterday I compared both the 26 and 31mm, and felt 31 was the better size as 26 looked too small even on my wife's thin wrists. I also liked rose gold.
I am writing this on flight from Atl to SF and at airport I was next to a retired looking couple both with Rolexs. she had a yellow gold 26mm date just with sporadic diamonds around bezel, not loaded. She also has a couple gold necklaces and bracelet and I gotta tell ya, the 26mm in gold looked great. Looked in portion and not out of place even with her high-end jeans and casual top, she was petite probably 5'4 average frame. I was liking the 31 but after seeing the 26 need to reevaluate. Chuck |

poor girl!
I say either or. I just picked up my wife a K serial date that i do believe is a 26. Thought about a 31, but she is petite, with good eyesight. Amazing she keeps me around! She views a watch as jewelry, like a bracelet and the 31 would be too much. |

My wife has both 26mm and 31mm Datejust models. She wears 31mm model on a daily basis andthe26mm model only on formal special ocassions. I want to get an OP 177200 with oyster bracelet in 31mm for my daughter.

I voted with my cash and got my significant other (aka wifey) the 31 mm DJ with smooth bezel, everose gold and ss with diamond accent (6 and 9) mother of pearl gold dust dial. She practically wears it daily, but does swap it out with an all SS Tag model when wearing all white jewelry.

26mm is the quintessential elegant ladies size. my wife is a very athletic 5'2" 120 lbs of rock hard muscle. the 26mm dj really softens the whole package.

My wife's got a ladies platinum yachtmaster and loves it. 29mm and fits her perfect. She's 5'3" 110lbs. I'll post pics if I can find them. She tried the midsize but she thought it was too big

My first Rolex was a Lady DJ at 26mm. I almost immediately regretted the purchase as the dial was so hard to read. I remember at the time (2007) trying on a midsize (31mm) at the AD and thinking how large it looked. Funny how perceptions change. Now I wear a 36mm Datejust. Trendy or not, my farsighted eyes appreciate it. |

My wife has a very similar build. She is petite, very much in shape, but with small wrists. The 26 is absolutely perfect on her. She is a professional and wears it daily. It has a white gold fluted bezel, black face, diamond hour markers. It's absolutely stunning yet at the same time subtle; it will catch the attention of anyone who has an eye for detail. I usually tease her when she "slums" it with her mother of pearl dial Omega DeVille...which is also the same size... You probably can't go wrong with the 26 or 31, but anything larger on a woman starts to look a slight bit gaudy/blingy...especially in a professional environment where you might need to dress well for clients, but don't want unnecessary attention and bling. Not to mention...the 26mm....wow, so how do they get all those pieces and parts AND a date complication crammed into such a little case. You just gotta Cheers and good luck with the purchase. A lucky wife, indeed! :) |

I am 5'8" and wear heels on top of that, and I have the 29 mm ladies' Yachtmaster...I am still of the old school of not liking larger watches on women.
Are you sure your wife wants a surprise? With something as expensive as a Rolex that I wear every day, I am so glad my husband let me pick out my own watch (it was for our 10th anniversary). Surprises are fun for things that aren't worn every day, such as a bracelet or necklace. |

my wife wears her Airking as her everyday watch, that's 34mm and she prefers it for everyday as its easy to read ( and yes she likes my Panerai but they just look silly on her wrists ). But, for when she is "dressed up" out comes the Pearlmaster @ 29mm.
Looks big here - but perspective against my 42mm EXPII

I think the key is wrist size and shape. My wife has 5.5 inch wrists, but they are more pencil like, so a 31 mm would be at the limit of what she could wear. She did try both 26 mm and 31 mm at the AD, but the 26 mm just seemed to look better, and for her it still looks pretty large after 2 months. I have noticed women with the same watch and how it can look smaller, but that seems to be because of their larger wrists and also where they wear the watch. If your wife has 6 inch plus wrists, she should be able to pull off the 31 mm and have it look in proportion.

My wife prefers the 40 mm (Yachtmaster). And she has very small wrists. I personally think that woman can wear large watches.

I LOVE my 36mm Explorer...and I am a 48 year old professional, wear suits to work, etc....just really don't like the look of tiny "ladies" watches.

Another vote for 31 mm. But my wife enjoys wearing my 40 mm SS Daytona White Dial
