Daytona Non-ceramic vs Ceramic

So, folks I know Daytona-C is great watch and in huge demand and loooong waiting list. While I keep seeing that watch I keep staring at the previous version and keep getting attracted to it and thinking about it. I have few questions

- Is the bracelet same between the older version and Ceramic version?
- Except the bezel and dial, is there no change between the watches?

I mean for other watches upgrade, the bracelet was also updated be it Explorer II, Sub or GMT. But for Daytona.. is it only the bezel and dial? Let me know.

Secondly, what do you think about buying older Daytona now? Is it going to be right decision? Not in monetary terms but the prestige of Daytona.. is it the same compared to newer model? Let me know. Thanks

(To give my perspective - I love older versions of Explorer II and GMT but not really fan of Sub which I prefer the upgraded version, so confused about Daytona if I'll regret buying it).

Truth is.. I love all 3 versions in 16520, 116520 and now 500LN. They all fit great due to the perfect case profile.

All daytonas are amazing. I think it matters white vs. black. The white 116520 is all good. But, D500 trumps all.

Beautiful!

I love collectors that collect a single line.

Fantastic. It probably really confuses non Rolex people at the office. They may notice you wearing a Rolex, but don't know what model it is (or even care for that matter), but every time they look it it looks the same but different.

Maxy,

I have a 116520 white SS Daytona and it is perfect.

I would buy a 500 white dial tomorrow at list but the premium and availability of this model and even Subs/Subdates in Oz is a joke.

Buy yourself a 116520 as soon as you can if you can.
I doubt prices will be moving downward on this one for a long time.

116520

the bezel with the level numerics is pure heritage and was the one feature i really liked on mine as most chronos don't follow that design feature any more.

Oh I love this one
Still believe this one will hold value and keep climbing.
Seen the ceramic in person and almost made a deal but this one tops it

All is the same except for the bezel, especially the black dial. I'd stick with the 116520.

Best of luck deciding. Both are great watches.

Not just for daytonas, but in my opinion, 5 digit have been the best produced by Rolex ever! I would go for a white 16520 any day!

Yes, it's the same. The 116520 is unique in that Rolex also updated mid life cycle with a new clasp. Whereas they don't typically make changes without changing the reference number. It also launched with the blue parachrom hairspring, which didn't get to the other sport models until later.

I did read somewhere on here where an owner said that the crown guards are slightly different on the 116500 too, but I can't confirm. The sub-dial finishing is absolutely different though.

I was in the same boat as you. I like the DayC but it's different. You could easily have both. Getting one at list would be a no brained.

But I was looking at 18k (5k premium) vs mint condition 116520 for under 11k and they don't make them anymore plus the difference is another watch.

I bought my 2015 model in July for £8,800. On Saturday I saw a 2015 model for sale for £12,850. Prices are going up as the model becomes more popular and the supply decreases. It's basic economics.

Agreed about 5 digit Daytonas (and just about all other 5 digit Rolex watches.) Love the thinner hour indices and brushed lug tops.

Both are exactly alike except for the bezel. I own both and like the older one better.

I like brushed lugs and thinner markers too.. not bad for a 17 year old watch :-)

I too love both honestly. I thought I would flip my old Daytona when I got the Ceramic, but I decided not too. Each has it's charm.

that said, if I had to pick one, it would be Ceramic.

Daytona Non-ceramic vs Ceramic

I've always had daytonas and I was dead set in a Ceramic. I picked a black one up from my AD in October fir £8250 and loved it. As time wore on I started thinking about the 116520 and I've recently sold the Ceramic and bought a white 116520, I've come full circle and couldn't be happier.

There is always sentimentality for the older ones when a new one is released. I decided to go with the C when prices on late model box and paper 116520's started creeping to near MSRP for the C. Since I had never owned a Daytona I thought my first experience should be with the latest and greatest. I am quite confident if I had already owned a 116520 I wouldn't be upgrading.

So far I've seen Ricky Fowler, Justin Thomas and Brooks Koepka with the 116500 C. No wonder they're so hard to get. The PGA tour players have snagged them all. :)
