Yes, this is true. Doing it in a tasteful manor as someone with an interest in watches is quite reasonable.

I think the 'notice' issue is way overplayed....the vast majority of people rarely pay any attention, at least in my experience over quite a few years. It's only a watch.....

Same here....havent gotten that question in years. To my surprise I do get a good amount of Rolex enthusiasts who notice my Deep Sea, I thought for sure it would pass along as just another sub, but I do get "thats a deep sea? nice" from time to time, especially while traveling.

I've worn all sorts of watches over the year at my current job from black, white and even green dial (seiko alpinist) and no-one ever noticed a thing.

Until i bought a Submariner last week, then wore it into the office and a week later someone that sits behind me notices it and says 'oo new watch, rolex?? is that real??'

Hearing that question hurts my head!!

Does anyone else find it very uncomfortable when someone notices your watch?

People notice my sub quite often. They usually say “is that a Rollie” *cringe*

My response is often. Ya, you a watch guy? And most of the time we have a solid conversation if they know their watches. I judge the situation and if the person seems sketchy I tell them it’s fake.

No one notices, and I'm generally not very open to chit-chat with strangers and my body language makes sure they won't approach me.

To everyone who takes offense to the “Is that real?” question; I think Rolex has been marketed and put on such a pedestal that people think the watches are way less attainable than they really are. I don’t think the layman knows what they cost. They just “know” they’re wildly expensive. So when they ask if it’s real, I think they’re just in awe that you’ve spent that on a watch. It’s almost a compliment, “I didn’t know you had it like that.”

I've worn my SD, daily since 2013, and two people, yes a whopping two people have commented on my watch. In the mall a young man asked, "Is that a Rolex?" I responded, "Yes it is." He smiled and walked away. The other happened while sitting on a bus in Afghanistan on a deployment. Another Soldier said to me, "That's a nice watch." I replied, "Thank you."

Four years, two comments. Survey says (and many here too), no one notices, or they do and don't care, or they do, and choose to appreciate silently.

At the end of the day, it's just a watch. A watch that tells time.

I personally, for somereason, don’t really like any of my watches being pointed out.

I think it might be because it says ‘I spent thousands or a watch’. It’s mostly amongst friends.

Move to NYC. Problem solved. You will be surrounded by millions of people and not one will ever notice you.

recently in last few weeks has happened to me twice, once at a apple store, the salesman commented on my omega seamaster while he was wearing a seadweller himself.

Second time was this young guy taking my food order at the register said "is that the rolex submariner ?, he is a watchgeek himself he told me.

I did not mind those guys as both were watch lovers.

IMO if you're purchasing a Rolex hoping people will notice, you're doing it for all the wrong reasons. There's much better ways to spend $10K + if you're looking for attention.

Now with that being said...If I'm working with a client who has a Rolex on, I will usually compliment them on it especially if it's a rarer reference.

It's like driving a Jeep (or a defender in my case) and you get that special wave from another owner, real recognize real !!

If anyone ever notices my watch, I yell "WHAT'S THAT?" to distract them and run away as fast as I can.

Yes,,
Body language goes a very long way,,
Most cities,if you “carry” yourself in a way that nefarious types think that you
will “ rock and roll “ in a nanosecond if challenged then you will never be targeted imo,,,
Only been noticed a few times over decades except places like car valeters where chaps often chat about there cars then watches etc whilst waiting for the cars to be cleaned,,,
I am ok with that,,,

Only watch that I've owned that has congered up a lot of attention was my omega plo prof, 90% just wanting to know what the heck it was.

I agree the two times I was asked - is that real? was by people who were wide-eyed and impressed, not suspicious. It's just a way of asking for people not au fait with luxury watches.

About ten years ago I was sitting at a hotel pool with my Coke GMT and a guy stopped by to say he liked my watch. He held up his wrist and had the same one. Same thing happened once with a coral dial Breitling. Brothers in Time.

Other than that, people almost never even notice. Especially now that with the exception of us insane people here, most folks under the age of 40 think their phone is their watch!

THIS ^
My best friend wrote a movie called Arizona Dream. The line from the movie I always remember is "In New York, you notice everyone, and no one notices you." Classic

I had 5 or 6 positive remarks from total strangers on my 116613LB during a one week luxury cruise in the Caribbean. Apart from that, never ever.

I've only ever had someone ask about my watch twice. Both instances were women in a restaurant... and both were commenting on my platinum Yachtmaster. I have never had anyone comment on my subs, or GMT. I was talking about GPS watches with someone once (I was wearing my milsub) He said "yours must be pretty expensive". My response was "A few bucks". Usually that ends the inquiry lol.

Oh wait, I did have a woman stare down my Black Bay 58 the other day. She never said a word but she almost fell over while she was tracking my wrist. I just thought it was funny.

3x in four years. Close to nothing.
