Is 36mm still a good size these day ?

I really like the Rolex Day-Date watch in either wg or platinum. But I love the look of the domed bezel on the 36mm which on the 40mm the bezel is look kinda flat. Can’t decided. What is the major difference between the two beside the case size ?

I cant help with regards to the differences, if any, between the 36mm and 40mm DD, but can offer my experiance with regards to 36mm being a good size these days. I have a 7 1/4" wrist, usually wear a 40mm SD, but since coming home in December and sending my SD to RSC for a service I have not had the 36mm DJ off of my wrist. It just feels 'right', not over bearing or, at the other end of the scale, dainty, just that classic/natural watch size for want of a better description. Hope that makes sense.

Sorry 36mm in todays environment is too small for a guy.

My mrs wears a 36mm and it looks perfect on her and she is tiny. On a 6 foot guy with 7+ inch wrist it would look very small and dainty.

I look at the DD40 as an updated version of the 36. Newer movement with increased power reserve and a larger case design that still carries on in the tradition of the 36

As for the size, it’s really personal preference but I know a lot of the guys here own and love their 36’s and for good reason.

What I think is cool about them is the wide variety of dial configurations, like the wave dials etc I hope they keep adding more to the DD40 line up.

Personal preference of course. For men, 40mm seems the perfect size if you want mine.

Mu wife wears 36mm as well. Heck, the female store manager wears a blinged out 40mm Day-Date and it looked great in her.

So wrong on every count. I work in a watch accessory retail store in HK and more and more of my customers are turning to smaller watches. At one time I only wore 44mm then progressively went smaller until now I’m wearing mostly 36mm and 39mm. Nothing over 40mm feels comfortable anymore - just feels big and clumsy. I sold everything over 40mm and don’t miss them one bit.

Why is it so wrong? Peoples opinion and thats mine.

You can try to convince yourself or whoever but there is no way I am wearing a 36mm.

If you want to wear one that is fine. Doesnt affect me.

Depends on wrist size, if you have a six inch wrist it might be more confortable to wear. But I think 40 is more standard now

Dial size is the same for a 36mm DJ/DD etc as on a Sub, just to throw that in to the equation.

Everybody has his own opinion and I do respect that.
I do not think that 36 is too small (of course I am not 7ft tall lol) but the today standards are at least 40 : that’s a fact.

Personnaly I own an OP39 and a GMT 16710 which is about 40-41, but next if I have the possibility will be a vintage DJ36, for sure !
So mesmerizing !

Anyway, today I am wearing my lovely OP39

Absolutely right!
DD and DJ is about classic and elegant design so 36mm is the perfect size for its own right no matter how big you are.

I can easily pull off with a DJ41 but IMO it looks strange and ‘in your face’.

I did consider a smaller size but recent purchase of 41mm Datejust confirmed the bigger face looks a lot better.

In terms of comfort, I don't really go by case diameter, more lug to lug length; case shape naturally comes into play too.
My watches generally vary between 40-42mm though I have worn smaller and bigger.
