Like OP, I took a little break from following watches and when I first got myself re-acquainted with the state of the watch industry, I was somewhat taken aback by the current shortage. After some "studying", I caught up and understood why. So I am not surprised at all by OP's reaction.

OP I took a break from the rolex game for years, I was also surprised to see the alleged "shortage" of SS Rolex sport watches. Its insane, especially for the Daytona market - you can purchase a gold Daytona for just a few grand more than a SS one. I think that is the only real model that is ridiculously priced. You can find most of the others on eBay/Chrono/this forum for a pretty fair deal.

Which is it? Slow production or everywhere?

For those just tuning in there was Baselworld 2017 and then the earth shifted on its axis.

OP, read some of the other threads on the Rolex side, and there are plenty, and you'll get the gist

These days you've got a much better chance of winning the lottery than walking into an AD and buying a SS model on the spot.
