Switching from Sub to Deepsea
I got my submariner from an AD back in May of last year. It’s a very cool watch and I really like all of the details and esthetics. The only problem is that I’m used to big watches 42 and 44 mm , and unless I’m dressed up I feel very weird with 40 mm on the wrist. I literally wore it maybe 3 times since I got it. It’s just mostly sitting in my safe.
I’m thinking maybe it’s time to just let it go and go for a Deepsea . It looks like a good size 44mm with the same kind of details and more , but a bit on the chunky side. Have any of you made a switch ? How does it feel for everyday wear. To heavy ? I love the look of submariner, just wish it was a bit bigger. |

I have both a Deepsea and a Sub. I really like both and have no issue wearing my Deepsea with a suit, or my datejust (36mm) with a pair of jeans and t shirt. I enjoy the differences in size and style.
That said, if I had to get rid of the Sub or Deepsea, I would keep the Deepsea. It’s the most unique Rolex I own, and I really like it !

My D-Blue is never ever leaving (in fact I just picked up a fully stickered black dial 116660, just don't know that I needed to...right place right time sort of deal). |

Love the size of the Deep Sea, just not a fan of the writing inside the bezel. Sort of cheapens the look to me. Don’t need to be told about the “Original Gas Escape Valve.”

I've heard that feedback a lot from non-owners, but when you wear it I feel like it's really not visible. Hard to explain, but it goes unnoticed by me 99% of the time. What I enjoy about that extra ring and the writing is that it gives another layer of depth to the Deepsea dial compared to other watches.

Went from a Hulk to a Deepsea and the wrist presence was undeniable. Very comfortable too. Go for it!

Well, I can certainly relate to you wanting to get the larger Rolex. Little over two years ago, I would never go past 40 or 42mm for a watch size. The Rolex OP34 was my favorite watch! After I got my Panerai watches, I am well used to larger watches.
While I'm not going as far as the Deepsea, I am getting the SD43 over the Sub. The Deepsea, however, has always been on my radar. And with the newer style case, wider lugs and bracelet, I think you cannot go wrong. Cheers, Carl

It’s a helluva reference, but IMO it’s not daily. More of a weekend watch for me while I owned it.
I LOVE the thick, domed crystal and of course the Dblue dial. A absolute stunner with as much wrist presences as any Rolex. I’d add but wouldn’t replace |

For me, the DSSD is more comfortable on the wrist than the subc. I’ve owned the subc twice so I did give it an honest try, but the case and crown always ended up digging into my hand. Not the case with the deepsea do to the raised caseback. It’s very comfortable on the wrist. DSSD and 5 digit sub are the winners in my book.

I have both DSSD and SubC LV. Both have their roles, and are comfy. If you wear long sleeve shirts, the DSSD will have trouble sliding under cuffs. I really like the heft of the big boy.

I would really like to try one on. I own the SD43 and it is perfect but the Deep Sea might be a little too big but so many posts on how well it fits balance-wise, and the dial is a thing of beauty that has to be seen in person. I hope sometime soon that happens.

Subs aren’t that special. The DSSD Deep Blue is truly unique.

I had 40 mm Sub, and then added 42 mm Explorer. Never wore the Sub it just felt too small. Started expressing interest in Panerai and treated myself to a 231 in 44 mm. Really liked the look of the DSSD but thought it sat too high on the wrist. Local AD got a new James Cameron DSSD and after trying it on I traded both Sub & Explorer in and now juggle the two 44 mm watches. Absolutely love the DSSD as most owners say it just fits perfectly.

Op, The Deepsea is quite special. I love mine but I have bought three separate times and I always sold it because it felt big. This third time it called again because it is very special. It just has so many unique qualities no other Rolex has.
This one isn't going anywhere. However, there are days where it does let it's presence show but overall I love the wrist presence and it's alpha Rolex appearance. Quote:

Love mine. Judging from what you said in the first post, I would honestly ask you to look at the SD43. A beautiful watch that slots in between the Submariner and the Deepsea.
If it were all black dialed watches up for chosing, I'd choose the SD43 easily, but when you throw in the D-Blue, there's no comparing. Impossible to resist that dial. Sent using Note 8 |

Lots of threads on this topic. Sounds like the Deepsea would suit you well but that's for you to decide.
I absolutely love my 126660 D-Blue. No issues with comfort, weight or daily wear. |

I've owned Subs and Deepseas; a few have come and gone but the Deepsea remains.

I always found the caseback of my DBlue to be "flatter" than that of my Submariner and SD43. Perhaps you're referring to how it wears more so than the actual profile. More proof that people need to try them on if at all possible |

I personally prefer the deep sea to the sub by far, I’m speaking based on personal choice .

I prefer my 116600 to both given a relatively small wrist size. The other both feel too large.
