reflections from a young rolex owner.....
well some of you know me and some of you dont. Well after this i think you will know me a bit more. this is about my 6 mth anniversary with my rolex....still i find that i stare at it. everyday...sometimes for spans at a time. I know i havent had it long but i was sitting here thinking of what it meant to me. When i was in grade 7 i would sit at the computer fantasizing about my rolex submariner. pictures/desktops everything...i was obsessed. It could have been $200,000 to me i didnt know. all i knew was that it was the best and carried such a high respect to it. If i saw one i literally stopped and stared. It was my "perfect" and something i thought i would never achieve. ever. well here i am at 23 years old with a D series on my wrist. a D series 16610. my grail. i look at my watch about 60000 times a day. and sometimes i forget. forget what im wearing.....something i have wanted forever.
I must admit that when i was in 9th grade i had a fake rolex submariner. it was my short term solution for my love. I treated it as i would a real one. oh i wish i still had it now!!! i cant even imagine! I want you all to take one second as you read this thread and look at your watch. take it off even and feel ever curve and think of where this came from and what it means to you. i sit and stare at the face watching the smooth hand sweep the glossy dial. rolex owners are not pretentious....and are some of the greatest group of guys i know. I wear my rolex everyday with a tshirt and jeans, and i wear it with suit and tie. To all the owners on here.....i raise my glass to you Cheers! Pete

Sounds like you got the Rolex Fever at a very early age! The only remedy is to buy another, and another, and another!

Lucky for my piggy bank I was into photography at age 17 and not Rolexes. I got by very cheap with my Nikon F2A system and six lenses. But I know what you mean about having what you really love. My TTGMTII may as well be tattooed on me now! Cheers!

Pete, I know you had guilt feelings of owning your sub especially with the purchase of your new home. You know the sub was an achievement for you, and you can cross that off in your list of things to do.
I know you also appreciate your subby very much. Here, here... a toast back at ya!

I am a young rolex owner aswell. Maybey Too Young . In 1998 my grandad sadly passed away and some of his stuff was passed on , the rolex went to my dad . As for me I was always on my pc looking up Rolex Information , pictures and looking into buying some books . When I was 11 , One Night when I came home from school , I was going to go on my laptop and my dad said he wanted to have a chat with me. His Words were some where along these lines . " Now Alex , I have been watching you on the pc constantly on rolex sites and I have seen the bookmarks on the internet , everything is rolex. I want you to wait here , I need to go to the safe . Now Alex , as you know this is your grandads rolex . Now I can obviously see you have a huge passion for watches , so I want you to have this watch . I know that you will take care of it , probably more than me . This watch is now yours , I hope you will treasure it ". I was absolutely chuffed . i just could not believe it . I did not know what to say , I just gave my dad a huge hug and told him I love him . My Grandad , My Grandmother and My Dad ( their son ) were living the rich high life in Aden . If I remember correctly It was some sort of special event . My Grandad bought this Date for himself and somesort of pure gold Omega for my Grandmother . The reason I joined TRF quite late is beacause I was looking for a forum that would believe I am a 13 year old rolex owner , that had friendly members and that were helpfull . On 16 . 3 . 07 it will be the one year anniversary with me and my watch . When I want to relax I take of my watch , remove all sound giving items and watch the second hand sweep around the dial and listen to the ticking . A message to all Rolex Owners , charish your watch , not all people can aquire a rolex .

I was really like 16 when I got into knowing what a Rolex was. I knew Ferrari since I was 8 years old. Thanks to Magnum PI. The early years of discovering Rolex is magical.

Good alex
Now I'm not the youngest guy here! Pete I feel you. I'm 19 and I earned my first one with my own hard earned money a couple of years ago. But I really hit gold when I got my 116200. The one watch I put on the auction block but COULD not sell it. Then got the 1680, and hit gold again :) It's actually more expensive than drugs. It's more expensive than cars. Because we all want more and more and more At least with a car when you park it you forget it till morning. These watches get our attention day and night! |

Excellent post Pete! One of the best I have read here. You seem grateful for owning a Rolex. We all shoud be. It is not a right...it is a priveledge. Take a moment to be grateful and think about what it took and the path you traveled in life to get that first Rolex.
Remember that feeling you had when you got your very first one. Magical! |

Pete and Alex, both great stories. Having broken bread with Pete, I know how much he appreciates watches, and Rolexes in particular. It's pretty clear Alex feels the same way. Congrats to both of you for getting your dream watches at such young ages. Treasure them always and build on that fascination and enjoyment.

Pete and Alex,
Very compelling stories. I admire the fact that you both acquired a passion for watches, especially Rolex at such young ages. |

I was not given a Rolex at a young age, but I was give a Canadian Mint set for my birth year when I was 5. I still have it and that helped blossom a coin collecting hobby that continues to today. My parents thought I'd have the coins spent or sold by now. Never!

Both Pete and Alex - those are fine tales, worthy of owning a fine watch such as you do. It is nice to see young folks who appreciate fine things and understand that they need to be taken care of and cherished. As a youngster, Rolex always meant my father to me, since he wore his GMT Pespi every day, everywhere. It has been an honor to have it passed down to me, although I wish my circumstances for getting it were different. You can bet your @ss I will never take it for granted and that, whatever other watches I buy, I will never part with this one.
I salute both of your's sense of determination and r espect for this fine timepiece. |

Pete & Alex (and all other younger members) I congratulate both (all) of you for at your young age you have matured to a much higher level appreciation of fine and durable time pieces than your contemporaries.
Way to Go! |
