Thanks. The sobering part for me is that while it was an exceptional aircraft to try and fly, sitting in the rear cockpit - the home of the weapons systems officer, there lay within my reach equipment that in some models that could deliver a tactical nuclear weapon.

I just wish I could have taken a couple of iPhone snaps. I have plenty of pics of me firing up attack jets - I don’t have one of these.

YouTube actually has some pretty compelling video. Type “”Carrier Break” or “Mach Loop” or low level FA/18. Give you a sense of the view.

Rob Thanks. Like all jobs - it’s 98% predictable and 2% terror. Mine included.

Meechi. When I trained, we sat a tennis ball in our laps and pulled up 30 to 40 degrees, fed in forward stick to a zero g state and ‘float’ the tennis ball in front of our faces. Not always successfully.

I reckon that during drinks service you could set power, pull the yoke back, stabilise then feed forward the stick and give the punters a thrill.

While I don’t know the numbers, I hear that airliners do have a decent G tolerance - to a point. As long as it’s not rolling g.

They were pics I googled quickly before I flew home so you may be right. The F15 is longer I believe. Let’s blame google for now.

The F15 is characterised by very boxy air intakes

In smaller aerobatic aircraft, I can’t count the number of people that have either greyed out or gone to sleep as passengers of mine. Especially young guys who say give me 8 G.... That’s why I gave each passenger a foil lined BBQ Chicken bag to barf in.

I still love my original Breitling as it carries lots of memories. The GMT has really taken me by surprise.

Even under 9G, it didn’t lose a second. I figured that somewhere along the way it might get magnetised but she’s working like a trooper.

Not in the traditional sense. But I was bringing a Lear Jet 35 into a regional airport and we were speed brakes out on a steep descent and I saw a large blue object in my 1 O'Clock position heading my way. I rolled a few degrees left and a large collection of blue inflatable children's balloons in the shape of dolphins all tied together sailed over my right wing. I think there must have been about 10 of them tied together and they got way too close. Had they hit an engine, it would have been messy.

I radioed Air Traffic Control to inform them that a group of dolphins had passed over my wing and I could hear the laughs in the background. True story.

Apparently they came from a carnival and somebody had let them go.
