Another AD bites the dust

Well, I just called a local AD here in my town to check on their GMT II inventory. Turns out, they are no longer and AD. Wonder if the economy is doing that bad or what!?!?

One less place to shop...

Yes the place I picked up my GMT II last month is now all boarded up according to my wife.
I can't understand it as they were named as Rolex branch of the year for 2007 in their chain of shops.

Wow that is a true shame. Watches sell a lot but keep in mind a lot of stores have them laying around for over a year etc. Hate to see that happen but well.... you know.

Business is business. Or maybe they were caught dropping their shorts on discounting. Protect your discounting AD's folks.

Would one of them start with a "T"?

Must be the sign of the times?

My local AD has a P serial GMT II Pepsi in the case and also an older serial 14060M. Maybe he is on the chopping block? Could having old stock be an indication of this? Anyway, he was the one I git a SS Daytona from last month at MSRP.

Exactly, could be various reason. I have seen though and herd from employees on some stores sales and many things come into play. Their not the only ones around so no biggie.

I never like stores with too much new old stock. Prefer the ones who sell watches more on a regular basis. Also even though were repeat buyers a watch is something that when a lot of people have 1 their basically done and contented, that or get other brands. That is just life though.

I assume it is Hamilton? I stopped in there a few weeks ago and the display case was dismal. I guess they will lose there ability to get Rolex parts? They always did a great job servicing mine.

You know Bo I don't know what to make of the chatter. One rumor is that Rolex might be tightening controll. Whether it's an attempt to stop discounting or a sign of the times I can't say.

Correct. Word is Rolex is closing AD accounts by 25% across the board worldwide, no exceptions.

Most likely tightening up US supply in order to expand into other countries.

A Reeds in Buffalo just lost their stock...
I went in asking for the Rolexes and they said they no longer carried them..but would I like to see their new collection of Bulova?

This one was kind of bittersweet for me though...a few months back, I walked in ready to buy a watch...not only wouldn't they discount...they wouldn't even throw in a polishing cloth to make a sale....

as I left i asked..."how do you guys expect to sell any watches?"
I guess we got our answer...

I wouldn't think Rolex would clamp down on AD's offering discounts...that affects the dealer's profit margin, not Rolexes....but what do I know.

Just guessing, but maybe they are just cutting out the slow movers/sellers? With the thought of maybe expanding later. My $0.02 worth.

I think this a Rolex ploy to elevate it's status. It has long been my belief, (in view of the recent new models and their premium -some say outrageous, prices) that Rolex is trying to move into the Patek, V-C, J-L tier of luxury watches. Make and sell fewer watches, make the same or greater profit.

Have no idea what is going on with Rolex ADs and not too concerned. The point I will make is that I have an engineering company that last year doubled its sales. With that came another tier of overhead, 40% increase in employees and three times the problems and risk. I let this happen only to take care of our biggest client. How much did profit or EBIDA increase? 15%! Most of the problems were internal and still on-going. My desire? To have less sales, less risk, and less headaches. Why have I not downsized? First, the employees and second, the client. Time will tell if I have made the right decision.

Insane pricing and spotty staff, from my experience. Although some do stock some very tasty vintage pieces.
