The Rolex laser etched crown feature is a small laser engraving of the Rolex coronet symbol at the 6 o’clock position of each Rolex crystal. This feature started in 2001, and was then implemented throughout the entire Rolex line including the Cellini models in 2003. The LEC is difficult to see with the naked eye, but with proper lighting and sometimes the help of a loupe can be seen quite clearly.

If you have a white dial it is pretty impossible to see. You can find at least three threads of people who couldn’t find theirs and they are all white dials, one guy ended up seeing his through a macro lens on a camera at the right lighting against his six marker. The bubbles formed in the glass are white so impossible to see against a white background, you have to have something for the white to contrast against

You bought this watch at an AD and you're worried about its authenticity?

I have a white-dial DJ36, and I can see mine if i take my iphone, turn on the flashlight, and shine it across the lens at the 12:00 position. Pops right out. (You have to look at an angle so that it isn't right on top of the 6:00 marker, that hides it).

Look harder. I recently purchased a 2005 16710 and I was convinced it had a replacement crystal as I looked on and off for weeks with a 10X loop. I actually found it with a microscope.

shine your cellphone flashlight or a laser flat with the crystal from 12 down to 6 oclock. It will pop out!

Yes and as a bit of added information. The reason that the green crystal Milgauss do not have the laser etched is that on early prototypes the Rolex crown was very noticeable on the green crystal so Rolex opted not to do the etching.

It's extremely tricky to spot. You should direct a light at it from an angle and look from opposite side. Your amazing dial color does not help, better seen on black dials.

In addition to having the proper light I've discovered that it is good to remember that the etching is on the underside of the crystal. The etching isn't noticeable if focusing on the dial. I focus on the dial and then move the loupe away from the watch to focus on the underside of the crystal.
A Rolex crystal replacement would still have an etched crown. There would be a sideways 'S' included in the bottom portion of the crown. For an image and additonal information do a web search for "rolex laser etched crown" and find the entry for rolexusedparts. |

Try searching around the entire dial keeping the light *across* the crystal. If you bought at an AD, you're good regardless. Sent from my SM-A520W using Tapatalk |

No LEC on the Milgauss and Rolex doesn't use the S for (service) in a replacement crystal anymore AFAIK.
