Fortunate to get almost all of my watches at MSRP or less from an AD. My APRO is the only watch I acquired via trade with DavidSW. So basically as good as coming from an AD as far as I’m concerned.

Bought several over MSRP.......and have enjoyed wearing them. If you can't buy at an AD, what is the "MSRP" in reality? More like an opportunity cost at this point.

With those salty sales taxes where I live, I'm not paying a dollar above MSRP, that's for sure...

Never bought a modern watch from a grey dealer, all from AD, except for vintage or discontinued watches, of course.

All four I have purchased were at MSRP plus a discount. Can’t fathom paying great prices (unless the grey price is a better deal)

I have bought at least a dozen Rolexs in my life and havent paid over MSRP on any of them until this last one. The last one was a 116710LN that I bought (under MSRP) and gifted to my son for his College graduation a few years back. He talked to me about 6 months ago and he wanted to move up to a 2 tone Sky Dweller and asked if I minded him trading his GMT in.

I told him ha can do what he wants but asked him for a shot at buying it back if he goes through with it and I recommended David since I have a watch relationship with him. DSW offered him 9K for the watch which I matched to get it back since it was a 2013 that was barely worn with some stickers still on the bracelet. So I did pay over MSRP but it went to my son which worked for me. Other than that its a mind set thing because I wont pay over MSRP.

Checking in! I havent and never plan on doing so. Ive been collecting for the past 10 years, I remember the Hulk being sold for 7450 used then have seen them going for insane numbers like 14k.... I have bought directly from trusted sellers on these forums. All great people. I bought my first Rolex a 1603 on the forums. found a gem 16610 for 2k in KY. Bought a 214270 from Hq Milton, a 216570 from Radcliffe Jewelers, a 116613 & a 116610LV from my buddy Cwieb. Next watch is a PM Rolex and am not paying a premium or MSRP. Sometimes you just have to wait out the hype.

I am happy to report I have bought 2 Rolexes since 2016 at less than MSRP for both. An Explorer from a Grey and the grape OP from an AD with discount.
I have always paid at least 10% under MSRP, most lately an Explorer II directly from AD, about a year ago.

Never, and dont plan on. I support all watch brands depending on the model and collection. Though i lean towards rolex, i would never pay over retail for any model, and thats a personal choice

I paid over retail for a blue stainless steel Skydweller, a pepsi GMT II on jubilee and retail for a black dial ceramic bezel steel Daytona. All three watches were purchased from the same Rolex AD.
Another Rolex AD sold me a 2 day old white dial ceramic steel Daytona for retail plus sales tax.
All of my other Rolexes were purchased below retail from Rolex ADs.

I own/have owned close to 10. Have never even paid msrp, let alone over it. I would have a tough time enjoying a watch that I overpaid for.

After calculating everything, it came out to retail+tax basically. Some were bought under msrp and some over. Most were from grey and 1 from AD. I probably won’t buy anything over msrp at this point, I’m happy with what I have and I’m happy I didn’t have to pay over msrp+tax ultimately.

Who here has never paid a cent over MSRP for a Rolex?

You’ll have to excuse me. I only made it through about half this thread before my serotonin levels plummeted.

Barring anything I might have missed in the second half of this burgeoning thread, I am one of the few TRF members to have paid over retail for a Rolex. In this case it was for my five digit Kermit (just two weeks ago). And guess what? Her chamfers were polished a little! And worse than that, for my remaining 25 years on this planet (if I’m lucky) I plan to wear it like I stole it!

In fact, if you want a real bargain, check out the classifieds after I’m gone. I’m sure my kids will dispose of my collection at a substantial discount as they could not care less about daddy’s watches. I don’t even think they wear watches. Go ahead and buy them for your grandkids. And best of all, you can leave the knee pads at home.

I am curious, who are the poor sobs who are paying huge premiums for the multifarious BNIB models from sellers on this very forum? I know a lot of the posters on this thread blame you for enabling the flippers. Not me. I’ve watched enough CSI to know that when you want to identify the peccant, just follow the money.

For those, like me, who have paid above retail, I salute you!

I primarily only buy though our trusted sellers as I have developed a working relationship with them way before Rolex watches were valued above msrp. Most times I paid below msrp but I am blessed enough to be able to buy what I want, when I want it. It’s a very liberating way to purchase a luxury item. I am extremely conservative with money and probably wouldn’t even buy a Rolex watch if a few grand was that important of a factor in the purchase. If a watch purchase was even a blip in the grand scheme of my family’s lifestyle it wouldn’t be worth owning.
