1966 unpolished 5513 needing to be revived
This 1966 5513 is a special piece in itself as it appears to have all the original parts including the pearl.
My client approached his father one day mentioning he was interested in purchasing a Rolex. His father told him to wait for a minute and as the son waited, his father came back and handed him this watch saying "here, take this one". The son not knowing much about vintage watches told himself "this looks old", as he wanted a current piece. Obviously, after posting on this forum, he learned much more about it and its rarity. I am now in process of servicing the piece and wanted to show its true unmolested condition which is true to the watch. I will post more photos once completed.

That fits squarely in the 'barn find' category.
Should be a fun project. Looking forward to more pics. |

It's so nice that your client appreciates his Dad's gesture. My kids have absolutely no interest in watches and upon my death, would pawn my collection for a smart-phone.

Beautiful watch. Gotta love that domed crystal and faded bezel.

Is the seal area putted up or just dirty?
Can you save the tube and crown, or do they need replacing? Looking forward to your photos of the work. |

Crown and tube can be saved to an extent, but he decided to replace with NOS parts and have the old parts returned.

Nice. Hope he doesn’t trade it for a “new” Submariner

Thanks for sharing Phillip, can't wait to see the finished pics...as a matter of interest (obviously hypothetically speaking) does a job like the above take to complete i.e. man hours?

He bought the Batman to scratch that itch. This one is being passed down to his son.

Tricky question as each and every watch is different per the owner. With this watch, if I were to add the time to speak with the owner, research and locate harder parts to find, then repair and restore the watch...I would say a good days work (only because I have the parts in inventory) which does not include casing up and testing. Also, much of it depends on the watchmaker and how pro-active they are. One of my main goals is obviously to do it right, but also to have a reasonable turn-around time.
