How over polished is this and how much would it be worth?
Hello everyone,
I'm considering purchasing this watch but I'm having a hard time getting over the over polished look. Am I exaggerating? |

IMO it’s average for it’s age. On a 1 to 10 (10 being awful) I’d give it a 5 or 6. You might want to give us more pics of the crown guards though...

This is the only other picture I have of them. Just a slightly closer up picture. What would be a good deal for this? Within reason.. |

Overpolished in my book but YMMV. I'd pass. Or factoring in having the case rebuilt.

Service case from Geneva with your Serial would be $2k. At least that is the modern sub and GMT cost.

That's not a Sub Date bracelet.

It isn't! Good eye. The original bracelet was lost when the owner installed a leather strap and the one on it now is a almost new 78393A solid end link bracelet. I actually find it adds value to the watch since it is a more expensive bracelet and in the worst case, if I wanted to purchase the original one at a later date, I could sell this one and keep the difference.

If the price is right...it’s a nice watch.
Personally I’m of the mind that unless it’s a $50K+ piece you want to keep as an heirloom, I’d polish any watch under that threshold. They’re meant to be enjoyed. |

Yes, been polished heavily, but I think if you have a good watchmaker enhance or address the top of the lugs only and leave the sides alone, then the case would look more appropriate.

Why pay extra to have the case restored. Too many better conditioned watches out there. I’d pass

Yes, I have seen an example of one LAWW did with just the tops of the lugs addressed enabling the chamfers to be re-established to a certain extent. Still retains scratches and imperfections on the sides but at a fraction of the cost of a new case. Looked damn good!

I've been looking at so many other listings for this watch to compare the polish. One thing I noticed that is actually unrelated to the polish is that all of the other Serti dials have a different font and spacing between the numbers/letters. Also the first "O" in Chronometer seems to be a little too close to the "R". Am I going crazy?! Is this possibly a fake dial and/or fake watch all together?

Compare that to this one, which is representative off all the Serti dials available currently on Chrono24
