First AP forum post. Looking for advice on Canadian AD
Hey everyone. First post in this forum. I am considering the new AP royal oak that was released this year with the panda dial new from AD. Any suggestions for an AD in Canada? Any advice on if a discount is possible to negotiate? I don't think i would be interested at full pop...I am considering this or a Patek 5167 to be specific. Here is a picture of the new steel royal oaks.

I believe those are AP boutique only pieces according to the website. I was eyeballing the blue dial and there are a few on sale through greys. I believe a discount is highly unlikely from boutique.
I do like these better than the 5167. Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk

Edit: it does look like they are novelty pieces. Perhaps they did not discontinue the rest of the line and just added these 3 new ones? Sorry my AP knowledge is not my strong suit. |

I went to try them on at our local AD here in Toronto. Entry level Royal Oak, the sales lady offered me 16% right off the bat... No haggling, negotiations or speaking to a manager. I suspect I could have gotten more if I did buy it.

The blue dial is very nice, that would be my choice. If they are boutique only I'm sure one of the trusted sellers on the forum could source one for you. Best place to get started is get in touch with some trusted sellers and take it from there.
I recently bought my first AP through a trusted seller and that's the way I'll do it from now on, it's a no BS transaction. Rather deal with someone who knows what they're selling unlike in the AD. |

The white and black ones are not boutique only. Idk about the blue.
But can someone explain to me why on the AP website the black subdials on the white dial one have like a circular carving in them whereas in real life pictures and this one they just appear plain black with no engraving? |

Are novelty pieces like "allocation pieces" with Rolex? So is a novelty piece kind of like a BLNR or Hulk? Are discounts usually less common on these pieces? Thanks guys.

I wouldn't buy a ROC until they debut it with an in-house movement and exhibition caseback, regardless of dial colors.

I prefer these to the 5167 but not the 5164. The subdials and date position are not ideal so I would want a big discount to buy which isn't going to happen either. A TS is probably your best bet for a discount.

I once tried to buy a 26400SO off the AD on bloor but couldn't quite get there on price. They are willing to deal for sure...it's just that I wanted a great deal.
It's a shop worth visiting regardless. Tons of great brands and nice sales staff. |

Another vote for RdV on Bloor.
Purchased my ROC there last month. sales staff were excellent and we managed to strike a good deal.

I found AP prices new in Canada to be high Josh. The selection in Toronto was pegged against the USD and was far from complete.

If your out in the Vancouver area check out Montecristo. The downtown and Oakridge locations carry AP. OK selection and they are willing to work with you on price.
PM me if you want the contact I have dealt with. |

Novelty means 2017 new release, and next years novelties will be the 2018 new releases and the 2017 novelties will no longer be novelties. This process repeats itself every year. boutique only means it is only available at boutiques Novelty and boutique only means it is both a new release and only sold at boutiques So browsing the watches on the website should give you an idea of what sales channel they will be available through. Your 3 pictured watches in your first post are novelties but NOT listed as a boutique exclusive where as the titanium/ platinum one is both a novelty and a boutique exclusive The term novelty is so misused on the forum it is not surprising that most people think it is an indication of something that it is not (IE only available at boutiques, an allocation piece, or that refers to a specific line of watches regardless of its release date like the previous generation of ROO 44's even though they have not been novelties since 2012). As to discounts, because its a novelty (new) and initial demand will be much higher because of that fact i would say a discount isn't very likely. As time goes on, its probably more likely to get a discount unless its a boutique only model as discounts from them are much harder to get than from an AD. |

There is one shot with the left subidial in focus so you can see the carving, and the right one which is out of focus look flat... |

I would take it over a 5167, but would take the 5167R over them

Only thought Josh, is that you'll want to buy at the right price if you don't plan on keeping it
I have no pony in this race but would much prefer a PP 5164 to 67 |
