Leban pens.
Anyone heard of the maker Leban?
I have found a silver ( 925 ) Leban fountain pen ( Apparently the pope used one! ) Wondering how they compare to other pens of the 100GBP mark. |

The Laban pens are nice for the $$ and there are several I am tempted by. I like some of them.

Laban is a Taiwan company using the ubiquitous Bock nib (mostly steel). They're similar to Conklin, Monteverde, Taccia and the like. I believe that all have been cart/converter fill. Using the standard Bock/Jowo nibs allows for easy changes.
I have a couple of the old Mentos - large Montblanc 149 size, #6 nib - in attractive resins. They also made a smaller version called the Meno (#5 nib). The silver and shell models I've seen were also attractive but didn't feel like quality in my hand. A grade below the Edison and Bexley types. They also make, or have made, some more expensive silver and ebonite models. If one were drawn to buy a Laban I wouldn't recommend against it. I'll put it this way: I know a lot of pen collectors, but no one who collects Laban (outside of the Mento). |

For years I always carried a Sheaffer, but I was given a Laban silver and white/'ivory' acrylic recently that has quickly become a new daily favorite. To me for the price point it's absolutely excellent (FAR smoother-writing than my Mont Blanc, to be perfectly honest).
Highly recommend. |
