1680 Experts

Hi guys,

Hope everyone is safe and well.

I'm hoping some of the Rolex Submariner 1680 experts can shed some light on this?

I own several 1680s (both red and white) and have only ever seen 'long' papers - 'Attestation De Chronometre Officiel'

I've never seen papers like the attached before - and punched '1680' too (rather than a region code.)

Have any of you guys had any experience of this before?

Many thanks in advance for any advice/help.

Its incorrect,
short papers are for non Superlative chronometer certified watches, like the 5513.
Also in 1976 there where crowns on the edges of the certificate.

Thank you for confirming my thoughts.

Odd that it's punched though. (Yes, I know there are fake punched papers.)

Watch was (supposedly) originally sold in Kowloon.

Thanks again.

You'd want the guarantee paper to look something like this, also from Kowloon (borrowed photo). Some guarantee papers did indeed have the reference number punched instead of the country code, and I've read there were also some short chronometer papers back in the day. However, that short paper still doesn't look right. I'd hunt around to see if you can find another short paper like that, just in case there was a rare style used in Hong Kong in the mid-'70s.

Hi swish, thanks for this - although it has left me more confused than ever.

I'll start a picture hunt now.

Thanks for the info.

Out of curiousity: can it be said which warranty paper should come with red subs? I've read somewhere that 571.01.100 should come with the early red subs, but what about mk 3/4? I've seen 571.01.150 and 571.01.300 so far.

(apologies for hijacking the topic)

Are you sure in the mid 70ies all papers came with the crown on the edges? I’ve a 1655 sold in 1977 which comes with the 572.01 (without crown) papers.

Interestingly (or not) - I've found a few more 1680s with 'short' (punched) papers - so, maybe some watches WERE sold this way. Hmmm?
