Patek Aquanaut 5164a vs 126710blro

I realize this has probably been discussed ad nauseam already but I'm curious from actual owners of both which they prefer: PP 5164a or 126710blro?

I'm celebrating a big milestone and am torn between these two (and sadly can't have both)...

Do you have any other watches? As one watch I would choose 126710BLRO. As part of a collection (depending on what else you have) I would choose 5164A.

Rolex is more durable. I’ve owned both and the Patek broke in 18 months under normal use.

Is it an option to take the White Gold BLRO (meteorite or regular dials)? There’s a big price jump between BLRO and Patek and at the Patek price I’d rather have the precious metal GMT

I think reading between the lines, you’ll be better off and happier with a BLRO. More worry free and easier to add the 64 down the road.

+1 This is an on spot comment. My first real watch was the BLRO. I still love it but I adore my 5168G which I got years later and wear it constantly. The thing is so comfortable but I do baby it and have scratch paranoia.

That’s an unusual choice price wise. I won’t have the 126710BLRO on my list if I was thinking of a GMT and that budget, it would be the 126719BLRO, blue or meteor dial, preferably the latter.

To answer some of the questions: this will be my first (and final?) "real" watch and will be my daily. Putting cost aside for a moment, I've read the comfort/size of the 5164 is unmatched which is a definite plus; on the other hand, sounds like the durability of the BLRO is probably better suited for everyday use (big fan of the jubilee too).

Anyone looking at the Patek probably isn't concerned with value and likely has both.

Yea, if you’re looking for a daily, go BLRO. If you go Patek, you’ll need a second watch to wear during the several months it takes to get serviced.

BLRO as a one and only watch is a great pick, that’s what I have and it’s a treat on the wrist. The Patek is a good looking watch but imo is better served in a collection, especially since it comes on a strap and not a bracelet... plus told save yourself a ton of money if you go with the BLRO.

Curious, are you asserting a 5164 is more readily available than a BLRO?

Well, one is $55k and one is $17k (pricing to buy immediately, unless you have an AD as a family member). Not really the same league. I guess it depends how much disposable income you have. Would you feel paranoid wearing the Patek?

I actually kind of prefer the 5167a. Not sure why, just something about its simplicity.

Have had 5167a and BLRO

5167a could be the comfiest watch I’ve ever worn. More comfortable than 5164 due to thinness. I wore it as a daily for almost a year. Beach. Everything. Beautiful watch and movement but also a scratch magnet on the beautiful finish. The PP buckle also began to become slightly miss aligned over time. Very under the radar.

BLRO is extremely comfy as well and a better daily than a PP from durability (case, movement, bracelet) and the use of bezel.

Depends on your lifestyle and which sings to you the most.

If you’re leaning towards PP, have you considered the 5167R by chance?

I have a Nautilus and a Sub.
As everyone else have said, the Rolex will sustain daily wear better.
But if it was down to one, it's not even close: Patek.

Happy hunting, this is the best part about buying a watch - the journey to it.

You’re asking for the most important variable here to be put aside - cost. If the prices for those options were even close, you could say that. But as I said before, and others have said it - this is not a comparison. At MSRP, one of those is nearly 4x the other. Now, if you asked everyone to completely disregard the brand and make it a no name comparison, you would probably get more honest responses I suspect. Brands have emotional attachment and biases come with that.

I can’t answer your question, since I don’t have both so can’t give you an owners perspective - but curious to understand why cost is not in the equation here.
