Opinon on having more than 1 rolex

Buy what you want and wear it. If it is more than one, so be it. I believe the key is to enjoy what you have, use it and enjoy. Don't over think it.

I used to have quite a few in my collection, but flipped a lot so my collection literally changed on a weekly basis for a short period of time.... Today I have a mere two and I am seriously considering letting one go to become a "one watch" guy

Some people seem to get so angst-ridden about watch collecting that they appear to value the 'balance' of their collection above the actual watches themselves. This can end up with the purchasing watches that aren't actually ones you like best, but they 'fit the balance' better. Of course, if a watch is then sold the balance is ruined and you end up needing to make even more changes to get things right again.Bit crazy really, like buying a watch box and thinking you need to fill it even though it only cost $100 and the watches cost many $1000s!

I'd like to have just a few, maybe 2-3 watches that feel important and special to me rather than trying to amass a collection that has a larger reason than the watches themselves.

Collect as many as you figure you need. It is a personal preference to many of us.

I agree entirely! I remember my grandfather having the same datejust for like 40 years, I'd like to get back to one watch and making it a special one.

Well put! Originally I was going to buy a watch that would "balance" out the collection. But then I realized if I'm spending this much, it better be one I love unconditionally.

I do think the 'watches for different occasions' factor is over-stated too. As above, your grandfather wore a DJ for 40 years. I really think a lot of watches are perfectly suitable for nearly all occasions, it's just that it's another easy way of justifying another purchase - pure enjoyment doesn't seem to be a strong enough reason for some people, which is understandable as Rolex etc are expensive so some extra justification is often required.

Right now, I just have my 2 week old Sub no date which I wear all the time, but I'd like to add a YG DD40 when I'm 40 in three years time. I'd be looking to wear the DD40 everyday pretty much, as I believe it was intended to be worn everyday with its useful complications. The 114060 will make a great alternative for more outdoor-type activities.

I have 5 subs, 2 daytonas, GMT, and a yachtmaster. Thanks to a recent visit to an AD, I'm thinking about a datejust. I may have a problem.

I used to think that way. I liked having one Omega, One Breitling, PAM etc. As I got older I found that I appreciated the Rolex more and have since moved towards having mostly Rolex.

Some people collect stamps.
Some collect old cars.

There's no cure for the sickness and no reason to try and collect anything unless it makes you happy.
