Rolex is going to start selling the Tudor line in the US again, Answer # 7 from James Dowling's meeting with Rolex p.s. Al is one of the best

BASELWORLD Your questions answered Mar 26, 2009 - 02:37 PM

Hi All;

I went through all your questions and chose 10 to ask the nice folks at Rolex during my meeting this afternoon. If your question wasn't chosen, don't take it as any insult; I picked the questions that I thought would be most interesting to everyone. As TZ is a worldwide site, I didn't pick any nation specific questions such as how much a particular model might cost in a particular country, nor did I pick any question that could be seen as either insulting or accusatory. With all that out of the way; here we go:

1 When will be see a Pepsi/Coke bezel on the GMT IIC?
Not any time soon, there are still problems with the red ceramic. In a meeting earlier today with another brand who have ceramic dials they mentioned that the failure rate with red enamel was around 95%; higher then with any other colour because red enamel/ceramic needs to be fired many more times than other colours. Remember Rolex need a product that can be replicated many thousands of times, not one that is handmade one at a time.

2 Will the new Datejust II get the domed bezel?
No, as the new case is much more rounded than the previous one, with no edges on the case top, adding a domed bezel would make the watch look too rounded. However there is a possibility that a flat bevelled bezel (like the Milgauss one) might be fitted.

3 What changes have been made to the movements in the new DJ II?
As expected, the Parachrom hairspring and Parachoc shock absorber have been added, but the main change is that the date wheel is now positioned further out from the movement, because the date window is now further from the centre wheel. This modification means that this movement gets a new model number; the 3136.

4 Will the DJ II get the Jubilee bracelet?
Soon

5 Will the 36mm Datejust be discontinued?
No

6 Will there be other Sports Models made in Everose gold?

7 Will there be increased distribution of Tudor models?
Yes, Rolex will be re-introducing the brand in all markets, but this may take a few years as they want to bring up production slowly; so as not to impact the quality.

8 Will Rolex introduce AR coatings on the glass?
No, except on the cyclops; if AR coating is used the glass essentially disappears, this is not something Rolex wish to do. In all Rolex watches the glass is an integral part of the design of the watch, which is why it sits above the bezel.

9 Will the Yachtmaster II be available in steel?
No comment, but not a definite 'No'

10 When will the No Date Submariner get the updated bracelet?

I know that some of the answers may not be the ones you wanted to hear; but I am just the messenger.
