1947 Explorer Date Oyster Petpetual

I have a 1947 Rolex Explorer Date Oyster Perpetual that I would like to get more information on and an appraisal, if possible. I am in the Dallas TX area. Any information will be appreciated. It is in excellent working order and have been told by 3 different jewelers that it is in excellent condition for its age.

Thank you.

That serial number is 1960/1

And the 1st of explorers marked explorer was Q4 1953

I can email good quality photos if you provide your email address. For some strange reason I am unable to upload photos larger than 1250x1250

A Canadian Explorer is what you have OP. In the US market, it would say Oysterdate instead of Explorerdate on the dial. Not super collectible or sought after like the model 1016 Explorers of the period. Dont get me wrong, its still a collectible piece but it wont bring the big bucks like the 1016.

Would this be a 5700? Would be neat to have a Canadian market Rolex as I am Canadian. Any references like this specific to Canada without the date?

I’m going to guess it’s either a 6294 or something similar

It's a 5700 Explorer Date. Same ref as the Air King Date. There was also a 5701 two tone version.

6294 is manual. OP's watch is automatic.

Definitely later than 1947. Rolex serial numbers reset in the late 50s and this causes all kinds of confusion. Your watch dates to ~1961.

Logic: dial and hands, squarely early to mid 60s. The Explorer was named in honor of the summiting of Everest, which didn’t happen until 1953. So what you have is 1961 as stated above.

Just thought I’d flesh out the logic behind what we are saying
