Panerai vs Ferrari Panerai

I like two different Panerai Watches. FER00001 and PAM 00104. What is the MSRP on either, I am getting bored of Rolex (a little), and that prancing horse keeps smiling at me. I have wanted that PAM 104 since last November, and when I went to the Panerai website I just had to look at the horsey ones. Does anyone have any feedback likes/dislikes on either? What does the box look like?

If I had a Ferrari I would like the Ferrari watches. Personally I do not care for "car theme" watches.

I will disagree and would get the fer if that is the one that keeps you smiling. I was debating initially the fer 024. It just appeals to me and hopefully will acquire one. From a resale standpoint the fer is most likely not so good compared to the PAM. You might actually get a discount on the fer due to many at ADs. Here is a pic of my yellow dial and the box is red with prancing horse Cavallino Rampante.

How useful is the timing feature? How long can it time for? Does it reset easy? I bought my little brother a fossil watch for his first year in high school as a gift, and the timing feature never really worked out. I also appreciate a "date feature", so I don't know that I would want the chronograph. Is the feature useful to you?

You could also compare a Ferrari to a Toyota. They both have four wheels. I do not know anything about Fossil watches so cannot comment on their quality compared to Panerai. The fer chronograph works well no issues. I do not feel it is as smooth as my Daytonas but I do not really care. I never use the function in actuality. I really like my fer 011 and get more comments on it than my 249 Daytonas etc. When I get my 024 with the Minerva watch out Daytonas.

I wouldn't compare the Fossil to a Panerai... EVER!... I meant to comment on how frustrated I was trying to make the feature work. Which scared me of a chronograph.

One thing I have noticed is that the last PAMs to sell appear to be the chronographs. I have a 250 and 251 which I like due to the date function but the are not as smooth as Daytonas. The fer 001 I believe has the date function. It has a simple clean look which works best on the fer.

That yellow or the red faces look pretty sweet! I wonder how the 001 looks in person.

I have tested my chronographs to make sure the work but otherwise will most likely never use the function. Some people complained that some of the 250 and 251 s skipped a few ticks with the chrono feature. Mine were fine. I just like the look of the chronos but can relate to no date function on other models. IMHO the FER watches look best without clutter.

The 01 is a great looking watch in person but so is the 104.

I was at the Ferrari store last week at Wynn Casino and they had many Ferrari watches. They were not bashful on the prices. I don't know anything about Panerai, and I don't know if the watches I saw were indeed Panerai. I will be back there on Wednesday and will report back then. I am not sure if the watches were expensive because they were Ferrari watches at the Wynn Casino or if they were expensive because they were a quality watch. Could go either way.

The quality of the watches is as good as the PAMs and they are priced the same the FER 01 will be close to PAM 104.

You are right. I went online to Porsche design last night. They had some descent watches that hardly resemble the Porsche brand. But they looked like they would hold up on their own. http://www.porsche-design.com/live/P..._Titan&flash=0 This watch goes for 2-3K online.
I wonder what the clasp looks like. I would have either order online from an independent possible counterfeit, or fly to California to see them in person.

http://www.porsche-design.com/live/P...ActiveID=63317 This watch was cool if you have 150K to spend on a watch. But the Ferrari and Panerai line interests me more right now.

Just be prepared that many people will say... ohh Ferrarri watch, what kind of Ferrarri do you have? Then you have to say... ohh I don't have a ferrarri I just like the watch...When that gets old you will try to sell it and won't be able to anywhere near what you paid so if you must have one go preowned...IMHO

I have never had anyone ask about my car but in the end it is what ever you like. If you never sell it than resale is a non issue. My Fer watch was my first Panerai and it was downhill from there. The problem is the Fer watch is different than the luminors and rads and they are all great but different. If I was on a limited budget it would be difficult to pick one. I prefer rads but would tell most people to get a luminor due to the crown guard feature. The 104 is very common but difficult to get due to its popularity. If you bought the 104 it would hold its value well and flip easily. The Fer 01 i am not so sure and you could most likely pick up at any time.

I had the opportunity of looking at the FER001 and a PAM like a 104 face but in titanium and titanium bracelet. I noticed the crosshatch pattern was a little busy, and may reflect light badly similar to my Rolex jubilee dial. It felt awesome on, it has the feel of a fine watch, but it doesn't have the look of it. I loved the strap and the clasp, rather than a tang buckle. Does the PAM104 have a tang buckle or a clasp? Also I noticed that the magnified date on the PAM looked distorted compared to the Rolex cyclops.

My PAM dealer will not discount the PAM, but will discount the Ferrari at 25%.

there's very good reason for that.

the aftermarket for the ferrari is even weaker.

Current MSRP on the FER 00001 is $6600 on the PAM 104 it's $5900. Both will be going up 7% when OP raises their prices on September 1.

As previously pointed out, not as great as demand for any of the Fer models versus the OP's but get what you like.

If it is of any assistance to you, I know an AD who will discount any Fer they have on hand 30%. Just not big movers. Drop me an email and I'll give you their name.

While I like the FER001, I am leaning heavier on the PAM104, but the date magnification looks a little weird. How do you Panerai Wearers like the Date window?

The date window is one of those "quirks" owners of automatic PAMs get used too. It does turn a lot of the hardcore historic PAM owners off. Others, like myself, are used to it and in fact it's one of the easy tells versus the fakes (along with the fonts on the date wheel).

What type of strap closing mechanism does the PAM104 watch have? A clasp or a tang buckle?
