This seems like it would thin out the reservations a bit and hopefully give those who really want one a shot at it, as I suspect there's pretty large percentage of those who reserved the watch strictly to flip for a profit. Forcing buyers to pay in full up-front might cause some of the speculators to bail out.
I think this is a great idea. I am also on the reservation list. Not 100% sure I want one tho. May have other plans for my $$

Looking forward to one

FWIW, a little more info on the original, c/o the "Moonwatch Only" book

Also the Alaska II - notice the sub-reg. #s are slightly different to those of the III...

Omega have always been criticised for producing too many 'Special Editions' of the Speedmaster.

I've never previously had a problem with that as I've always felt that they were justified as they were generally to commemorate certain anniversaries of the space missions etc.

This watch however is something quite different.

What is it actually celebrating? The fact that a lot of people subscribe to a website??? WOW!

To me it smacks of 'Cashing in' or 'making a quick buck'

No disrespect to anyone that's ordered one, but to me the watch itself looks cheap - that thin brown strap looks nasty.

The fact that it can only be purchased online also makes it a bit 'Gimmicky' to me.

I'm sorry Omega but Rolex would never do such a thing.

It actually hurts me to write this post as I always previously loved Omega (I own 2 Sea masters) but this has taken the edge off a bit...
I don't think you understand the story behind this watch. This Speedy is NOT designed by Omega, but by the guys behind fratellowatches.com. This is what's makes it kinda special, first Speedy to be designed by fans, without interfering whatsoever. It's their "reward" for making Speedy Tuesday go viral worldwide, and Omega is making money on it like a company should.

I'd say a win-win. I got one, it's a totally different LE than most others. Loads of history in this watch. You won't see Rolex do this, ever, they are to arrogant to listen to their costumers. And yeah, that's strong too i guess.

Any thoughts on how these will do on the secondary market?
You will find them at Jomashop for a 20% discount just like all the other "limited edition" Speedy's after they come out.

We'll see soon enough when people who reserved start needing to put down the bucks.

Woke up at 5am to a screaming 3 year old or I would have missed it the IG post. I couldn't go back to sleep and just happened upon it in the Omega feed I follow. Never been so thankful for an unhappy kid. I'm number #150 for those counting.

I don't think these are going to appear in the grey market... other than in a similar fashion to the silver Snoopy, at a markup rather than a discount.

Was too late to order but am on the wait list. If I get the call I'll be picking this up. Will probably have to give up for modded mitsukoshi for this, but so it goes!

Great letter and photo.

They are really make an effort with this edition.

Wonder if letter has real signature or this copy paste electronic signature?

Or it is just scanned generic letter written once and used for ongoing corespondence.

Is anyone considering switching their pickup location to a different country to get a more favorable price (e.g., London - UK)?

I received a reply from OMEGA, no new news as such..

Dear Speedy Fan,
Deliveries will be made during the summer (June, July or August). The watches are being produced in small batches and random order so it is difficult for us to know when exactly the watch will be available. Sorry for not being able to be more precise.
Thank you for your patience.

Best regards,

Arthur Hery
