Submariner shower also (same as your military shower). Quote:
Anything not being used gets turned off, even to the point I watch tv in the dark at night. I only run my aircon at night when I’m sleeping. I only use it at home in the day when sweat starts rolling down my back and I get the dreaded swamp crack. I shave my own head. I drive like a hippy to save fuel. I married an airline trolley dolly to get cheap flights. That as much as I can remember

I do cut (crew cut) my own hair, once per week, but will go once a month or six weeks to the barber to keep a good neckline. Other than that, embarrassingly enough, I’m limited... I’ll park my own car vs valet when convenient...

Great thread, I’ll chip in !
For a few weeks I refused to turn the heat above 22 degrees Celsius at home in spite of my partner complaining, my answer was “put a wool jumper on and come sit closer to me :-p”. That didn’t work and I reluctantly accepted in the end. She convinced me somehow. My smartphone is 3.5 years old (HTC One), had it new at 50% off. I bought a second one (NOS HTC One M8) at -77% off but won’t be using it until the old one dies first. I laugh at people when they tell me they’ve paid EUR800 or more for their smartphone. I mostly buy clothes on sales. As I write this, I’m wearing trousers, jumper, shoes and jacket bought on sale, good brands mind you. In the UK I would always buy food and groceries on offer, so many buy one get one free articles all over the place! I would even get things from the reduced section, the stuff about to go off, my favorite purchase of all! I never buy on credit, my only loan is the mortgage at 1.69 APR + Euribor. When I get a phone call from people trying to sell me a credit card at 29% APR, I laugh at them. I rank my watches in a spreadsheet in order of highest savings, going from 73% off down to 14% off, all bought new. As several folks in this thread, I don’t go to the hair dresser but use my own hair clipper. I drive my two sports petrol cars economically most of the time (yeah, I’m aware of the contradiction), like a granny on a few occasions to save on fuel, picture that while wearing a Rolex... I don’t do it more often cause it’s not good for the cars. I will floor them eventually every now and then within reason to keep engines clean. One is 15 years old bought new (I was mad), the other is 10 years old (bought preowned 5 years ago, on the way to mental recovery) . If I decide to buy another car one day, it’ll be preowned, just saying in case I wasn’t clear enough. And this is from someone who loves driving and used to take cars for a spin on a winding road at the weekend just for fun. Every year I compare car insurance policies from several companies and chose the cheapest. In spite of being the cheapest (EUR 450 per year full coverage), next year I won’t be renewing the insurance of one of the cars cause I don’t use it at the moment. I’ll start using it only when the first one dies (265k on the clock). When I go to McDonalds, I always chose the salad in the menu and the chips separately cause it’s cheaper. I save a whole 2 Euros. I own two Rolex watches (SD43, YM plat.). I’m only human. |

As a serious deal hound, this is probably my all-time favorite TRF thread!
- I buy gift cards at Kroger for fuel points and then fill-up 5-gal gas cans (after the cars) for refilling the cars at home later - Use an MVNO cell phone carrier (and even then I work it) - Pretty much only spend 'not real money' on myself (which is also how I bought my Explorer) - Typically order water at restaurants - Doing renovation work on our house myself in-part (demolition), being the contractor for the rest (so exhausting...) - I def have Prime but the business pays for it; no question it pays for itself (for us) - I never pay full price, not even for my Rolex - I have Movie Pass, so I go to Regal almost every day to buy a movie ticket and throw it away just so I can earn the points (I try to give it away first, of course) |

Wife asked for a $1000 dry cabinet to store her luxury bags - I buy giant plastic boxes, humidity meters and several big packs of silica gel from the dollar store. All for under $50. Microwave the gel whenever I need to reset them.
I also raid the toothbrushes and shaving razors from any hotel I stay at. In my younger years the toilet paper and Kleenex weren't spared. Sent from my HTC_2Q4D100 using Tapatalk |

I come home from a 5 day business trip with 8 little bars of soap, 4 bottles of hotel shampoo, conditioner and lotion...and if it's a nicer hotel a stash of toothpaste, disposable coffee cups and shower caps. The shower caps make great covers for motorcycle air cleaners and electronics when washing, the cups for misc projects around the garage or house and most of the toiletries get donated to homeless shelters if they start to pile up but I'm not too proud to use a few or have them around for houseguests.
I do draw the line at taking the toilet paper and/or tissues. |

LOL Some tight &@$^@%&$ in this thread.
Practice makes perfect. I can do my own with a shaving mirror, wall mounted mirror and a razor. I spike my hair evenly and trim it with scissors like a small shrub, then shave up the back and sides with the electric clippers. Lastly wet shave neckline. I'm very proud of the results and years of technique refinement!

My grandfather used to always yell at us for having the heater on when we could ,"Put more clothes on if you're cold." We used to be able to see our breath in his house.

Shoot a lot of what I eat.
I've got a lot of recipes for deer, squirrel, pheasant, grouse, rabbit, turkey, goose, duck. Don't care for bear. Not above taking a porcupine at times and woodchuck is good eating. |

Flying Business class instead of First.

A couple caveats - I spend money on cars, vacations, things that go bang, and air conditioning. I refuse to be hot and I like to drive nice vehicles.
Ways I save money: Buy meat in bulk. I also raise my own cow/pig from time to time. Turn off the lights when leaving a room Order water at restaurants Make coffee/espresso at home Keep the heat turned down and just wear more clothes or build a fire I am seriously considering "cutting the cord" and dropping my $110/month Dish bill. Also, I would love to live in a small home. (1000-1500sqft) However, my wife will not hear of it. Taxes, upkeep, utility cost, mortgage, insurance.....what a savings that would be!

I pick up every single penny I ever see. Regardless if it is in the mud, muck or whatever.
I also turn off every light in the house and chase my wife away from the thermostat.

Give out the stink eye when anyone in my family orders a drink other than water at a family restaurant. God forbid they don't finish it.

I will not buy an article of clothing if it isn’t on sale, no matter how much I like it. High end clothes and shoes at j. Crew price points.. They usually are well made and classic in design, and I wear them forever.
