You can get a used THC for around 2.5k, or new for about 3.2k. It's 42mm with a date and timezone bezel.

I second the THC if you don’t go Speedy. Would also consider something from Sinn.

Wait on the Daytona

You will not be happy with anything else if you already know you want a Daytona. It might as well be a beater watch until you land on your Daytona.

I really like Daytonas and was considering them. Then I bought a Grand Seiko chronograph (SBGC201). I am continually amazed by the watch. I no longer desire a Daytona. I rotate day-to-day between this one and a DS blue.

I use to think that about a Daytona but since owning one the thought of it being too small went away.

IMHO the only real alternative is a Speedmaster Pro...if you have never owned a manual wind they are kind of cool and really no fuss at all.

In a similar boat and think the Daytona is too small, plus the fact it's impossible to get. I ended up picking up the Jack Heuer LE Autavia as an alternative. I've been wearing it for a week and it checks your all your boxes (around $5k, 42 mm, tons of racing authenticity with Heuer, panda dial, in house vertical clutch chrono). I highly recommend it. ).

By the way, the Grand Seiko chronographs are 43mm and can be found BNIB for around $5500 to $6k US. Just call around to the ADs listed on the GS website until you find one willing to negotiate.

Can't get the zenith here in the UK for that price, the 38 mm one maybe. I must admit that Breitling looks really nice especially on rubber.
If I hadn't bought an APRO (the price was too good to say no and it's another of the trinity ticked) I would've had a bigger budget for the chrono.

This. Lots of dial and bezel configurations to chose from and the vintage vibe is a real plus. Destined for strong future appreciation and truly amazing wrist presence. Slam dunk IMHO

I had the same issue, I bought the Omega, 44mm, chrono, GMT terra aqua. It’s depends personal taste. Omega a great everyday wearer. Keep my JCDS for weekends. Not sure what’s available in 42mm range.

There's plenty of grey dealers here in the US that can get you NIB 42mm size el primero for around $4400, and they ship international, unless the import tax is prohibitive.

If this watch said Rolex on the dial it would go for $18000 US from trusted scalpers

First, are you absolutely certain you need/want a chronograph?

I only ask because I labored under that pretense for years...and then realized I didn't.

You really don't WANT any of these < $5k chronos.

Wait until you can get what you really want..

Spending $5k on an "meh" piece just puts you that much further away...

I've had three Daytonas. Each time I think it'll be different this time but each time I end up thinking it's too small. The Autavia Here does look good as does the Breitling reverse panda. And I don't need a chrono, I want one because I don't have that complication!
