Hublot vs Rolex

Whichever way you look at, Hublot watches are much more innovative, complicated and pushing the boundaries of watchmaking than Rolex, it is no competition on this front.

Minute repeaters, tourbillons, 10 day power reserve watches, watches made of highly corrosive materials (magnesium for eg.) as well as other new ones (such as denim & linen dials).

However Rolex is the gold standard as far as the luxury dressy/tool watch with amazing value retention, all-day every day wearability.

Most Hublots will not wear well with a suit, they are too large unless you have more of a casual dress code at work.


I would say Hublots are very much underrated when it comes to the watch game and how innovative they have been. They are the pioneers of the luxury watch on a rubber strap which is copied by numerous high and low-end brands now it's unreal. If you buy right it can still be a good buy, find a grey dealer who can get you 30-35% off retail

I'm not sure about nowdays, I got mine in 2011 when you could still get 15% off an AP RO....

If you have Patek and Rolex, a Royal Oak for sport or a VC or ALS for dress would be my recommendation. I personally would not look to Hublot for anything. If you like their looks, get the Royal Oak instead.

I to tired of the Rolex madness after 8 pieces and thought to myself there must be more to life. I got this ona whim in nyc and it has truly been eye opening. Low price point. Different materials (bronze). Not over-represented (who don’t have a Rolex) and it’s been cray X-ray fun.

IMHO the only Hublot worth buying is their full Sapphire case series.

Possible discounts depend on the model. New popular models like Meca 10 for instance you will not get a lot of discount on. More expensive higher end pieces like Tourbillons you can often get a screaming deal at like 65% off.

I personally am interested in the Spirit of Big Bang either Titanium /Ceramic or the Ceramic/Golf both in 42mm. Best I can find is 25% off, without going to a watchmaxx or jomashop etc. Those would be 30-32% but come without the Hublot warranty

I’ve go through the same - get over-baked on Rolex sometimes.

Buying other brands is lots of fun, not so myopic as 1-brand collecting. I’ve gone into JLC, Vacheron, Cartier, Breitling, Grand Seiko, etc. So much more interesting. Been eyeing FPJ recently too.

There’s always plenty of dumb WIS hate for Hublot here, so forget it. And as with most brands, don’t buy as “investments”, they’re just watches.

That said, Hublot are great. There’s always one in my collection, right now I have a ceramic Ice Bang that gets a ton of wrist time. They’re more interesting than the same tired stuff out there. Admittedly I’m not one of the “vintage gang”.

I’ve been trying to get some wrist time with the Ceramic Red BB & the Red Orlinski to see if I want those. I wore a ceramic black Sang Bleu which was amazing. Been considering that.

Hublot might be most innovative brand out there in terms of use of novel materials in watch making. I can’t understand why the WIS crowd seems to love to hate Hublot. I don’t own an Hublot, and I doubt I ever will, but I have a lot of respect for what the company and brand is doing.

I own two Hublots and honestly I like them, it’s true that the brand is not at its peak of popularity but that would allow you to get an even better deal!

PP responded by hiring the same designer to copy the idea.

Evolution? Perhaps. But the overlap is plain to see.
