There have always been issues with connotation and denotation and for the OP this seems to be one.

Grey market have been around forever in lots of products, and if now you find the term offensive that just because people may have misused it.

I have a friend with a gray car and I keep calling it primer (ready for paint), but he insists it's actually silver.

Grey can also mean dingy and old which is unfortunate.

But I have an African Grey parrot and she's very nice and speaks highly of me.

So don't worry, grey can be a positive thing.

Seems to be tired and shagged out after a long squawk.

I’ve seen grey market BMW’s which were imported models not intended for the US. They’re quite desirable.

I also perceive the grey market as a necessary secondary market when referring to watches. Example “I am more than happy spending extra money to get the watch I want when I want without the bs that some ad’s try to pull.” It’s not illegal for the “grey” to sell the watch. No matter if it’s BNIB or beat to hell and lacking papers. This is the free world for the most part and as long as the watch was acquired legally and they’re paying the taxes there is nothing illegal about it.

Black market is the sale of illegal items. This is where you would purchase stolen Rolex’s for pennies on the dollar. I’m sure even most fakes make their way through the black market before they even ever hit the streets.
