The Ducati Thread

There have been motorcycle threads here in the past, but I don’t recall a pure Ducati thread. I know there are many Ducati fans here, so it would be fun to see your bikes and shiny bits. This is my 1999 ST2, a sport-tourer with a 944 engine. I sold it after my head injury, and I’ve regretted it every single day.

I used to have that same bike - it was awesome. Also had a 748S that I tracked a few times. Have a pic of it somewhere.

Well, I'm half cheating, since this isn't mine ...
But I've been pondering adding a Monster to the stable ...

Picked this up at the start of lockdown for the London commute. Not been on a bike for 7 years

Following. This is a thread I would like to contribute to, but I'll have to settle for looking at your pictures at this time.

Such a beautiful bike Joey. And a bonus when it comes with a Rolex on the throttle grip.

Had an 848 about 10 years ago that I had major issues with. Turned me off from the brand. Such beautiful bikes though. They’re rolling art with such heritage and soul

The Ducati Streetfighter was my DREAM bike even before I got my license. Was fortunate enough to own one for about a year before selling it (stopped riding for the most part, plus the apartment I was living in at the time was getting people breaking into peoples cars daily). As much as I loved this thing, it honestly rode kinda crappy. The fuel mapping was absolutely terrible (these Streetfighters were notorius for this), combined that with the comically heavy clutch made this thing a nightmare to ride under 30mph. I remember being heaving on the Ducati forums and people would spend thousands on upgrades to try and fix this and it sorta worked, but most people said it was just something you had to live with. Plus, the Ducati tax made simple services more of a pain than it needed to be. I went to have a local guy help with replacing my tires and we had to special order a socket and wait a few weeks before we could do it. Even so, I miss this thing everyday.

And to match the "watch-on-handlebar" picture:

I used to be quite the Beamerphile, but after hitting Bambi and just too many scares with brain-dead cage drivers, I sold my last bike a couple of years ago.

I test drove a Ducati once and it scared the bejeezus out of me. Give me a big underpowered air cooled boxer twin BMW and I'm just fine.

That was a beauty Joey. Do you feel like riding again? there's always another one out there waiting just for you. I've been through a lot of bikes in my life but a Ducati wasn't one of them. I do however like them and have been looking .....

Sorry about your head injury, was it bike related if you don’t mind me asking?
I rode all my life from dirt to street, my road bikes were all Japanese sport bikes and later on Harley’s.
I too stopped riding due to injury, not related to bikes.
I miss swinging my leg over the saddle also but put it behind me now. About 5 years ago I lost a childhood riding buddy when he went down at bike week. Another friend on a Duc lost control after getting cut off by an old cage driver and lost his leg at the hip also in Florida. Those two events made it easier to swallow.
Be careful out there guys. Only takes a second and lives are changed forever.

I’d love to find my original bike if possible. I searched around Google today and found numerous photos of it which I took and posted on a Ducati forum on various motorcycle websites. I can still ride around town, but my touring days are over.

I was an ER doc and was assaulted by a patient. Beaten unconscious, broken ribs, cuts, bruises, etc. I have persistent short term memory loss, balance issues and fine motor deficits.

Based on where you're living I'd think you could have a good time on the local roads. Good luck with the search but remember you can always bond with the new girl.....

Damn sorry to hear that. Hopefully over time it will improve some for you.
I still have some vertigo which has been subsiding over the years but the nonstop tinnitus in my R ear persists.

The assault was in 2011, so my deficits are as good as they’re going to get. Fortunately, one of the changes was that I lost most of my Type A behaviors and drive and became much more laid back. I lost a few IQ points, but not enough to make a difference in daily life. I learned how to ski and ride a mountain bike again despite my balance deficits. I switched from a two-wheeled motorcycle to a Harley trike, which I had to stop riding because of a ski injury to my shoulder in a crash unrelated to balance problems. Long story short, all is well and I’ve enjoyed nine more years of retirement than I would have if I’d not be injured.

Bimota has a 1198 Ducati engine so I suppose it also counts?

The V4 belongs to a friend. Nice to ride, the quick shift is like butter.

I am seriously looking at a V4 Streetfighter but delivery in Oz is March next year.

I have a 2009 GSA, and it doesn't feel underpowered at all. Just returned from a 3600 mile road trip on it, and it performed magnificently.

I love bikes, never owned a Duc but had a number of others that I couldn't live without at the time... then gave it up after an accident and then another near death close call. I think most riders have a safety related epiphany at some point. The result of which is usually an equation that I couldn't ignore anymore (life > fun-risk) at least that's how it was for me. Its the others on the road you have to worry about! Usually the accident that does riders in is not their fault but that doesn't matter cause in a bike vs. any other vehicle, the bike loses. Those odds just don't add up once your superman invincibility wears off around 35ish JMHO. The risks don't outweigh that feeling of "freedom" at least not for me anymore, I found other ways to be free and keep breathing at the same time.

Do any of you own a 916? I think it's the coolest Ducati ever built. I'd love to have one.

I've ridden a demo model of that bike in the same color. Loved it. I owned a 2012 Monster 1100 EVO at the time. I own a 2014 Multistrada now.

You live in Irvine and had to wait weeks to replace tires? Just take the bike down to Ducati Newport Beach, they would have it done in an hour.

I bought my bikes from Moto Forza here in San Diego. Great store and great staff.

Been there, done that, didn't die. Bucket list thing for me, I always wanted motorcycles growing up and my mother said she would throw me out if I got one. It was an amazing time the past few years but bikes are just way too dangerous for me, sold my S4RS and 899 track toy this year.
