Ouch! Sorry to see this happened

Absolutely. Seen plenty of retirees using them in Spain.

But I was thinking more about the teenagers using them on the Sussex Downs (and seafront 😡)

The deraillleur is bent. Not sure about the crank or brakes.

Send the bike to Trek to get checked out. These carbon frames are designed to accommodate stresses in certain specific axes better than others and serious accidents, such as this one, can lead to significant frame weakening that might fail in future riding.

Even with the current high level of vacuum molding manufacturing, it is better to be safe than sorry.

Man how did I miss this thread? Mountainbiking is a bigger passion for me than watches for sure. Working from home right now I've been able to ride some five days a week. My two rides are 2018 Scott Spark RC900 SL and 2016 Scott Scale 900 SL, both high end XC bikes.

This model has a metal frame. I brought it to the bike shop today. He didn't think it was too badly damaged. And I didn't feel quite so dumb when he told me that he'd backed over his bike last summer.

Boy, am I late to this. It that I have any excuse. I love reading mtbr.com and forum. Along with bicycling magazine. Some inspiration to get better, fun links and serious discussions. ~personally, on the East end of Long Island I’m in high end fat biking for 45min - 2hrs bursts, running a tubeless- carbon sand killer that helps in not so technical but sandy terrain. Love it as it keeps me away from the Range Rover cellphone toting city dweller...safety first, also, I’m wearing an Apple Watch to top the blasphemy, it it’s just better at heart rate and Fall alert than my GMT...

Dang, I knew it was an aluminum rear, but those main welds are so nice, I could not tell until I really zoomed in.

Isn’t it nice, though, not to have been on the bike when it comes out as trashed! I should learn from your example.

Just got back from the trail on my 20 year old bike and it was great. Respectable time for not having ridden in years. The trail gives time guides for the loops for beginner, intermediate and expert. I literally did not push myself and was in the middle of the time range for int.

Also hit up my LBS and tried the new Santa Cruz Highball...wow! Bikes have come a long way... This was the top spec one and a bit more that what I want to spend right now, but it was a demo (ridden twice) so they had it discounted... still was $7k with discount. Ouch!

Anyway it felt really great to get out... other than getting groceries and taking evening drives in the Miata with the top off, I haven't left the house much.

I’m pretty sure backing over my bike is a mistake I WON’T repeat.

This is a Trek Fuel EX5 with 27.5 inch mid-fat tires. It’s a low-mid priced bike, about $2,500 which believe it or not is not expensive as mountain bikes go, but it has far more capabilities than I do. I’m really happy with it. I’d recommend going tubeless, as it rolls easier than with tubes. I’d also recommend a full-suspension bike if you plan to use it for hills, singletrack and downhill gravity trails. One can lock out the suspension, pump up the tire pressure and use it for nice rides around town.

Got out there again today. I always forget to take pictures on the trail, so here's one once we loaded up after the run.

Anybody mountain bike?

This is my first month on a bike after a horrendous road bike crash in November left me needing surgery and then rehab and Physio for the last 5 months. My family now call me Ironman due to the implants I have in my hip and thigh which will stay with me.

The last couple of weekends, I’ve gotten back on the bike finally, riding a Cannondale Trail 5 that belongs to my daughter. Riding on the tarmac on a MTB feels great. Surprised since I’ve been on a road bike always and never gave a second thought to getting on a MTB. It takes more effort to get to decent speed with knobby tires on tarmac, but enjoying it.

Now seriously considering my own bike, XC hard-tail look interesting. I’ve no idea about MTB’s so this is going to be fun learning and researching a new bike.

I just picked up the Trek EX8. That’s my first mountain bike. Not many places to go mountain biking in Florida but they have some cool paths near my house where people go horseback riding that’s quite fun. Either way it gets my goal of burning hundreds of calories done. I think it’s a lot of fun but I like biking in general anyway for exercise. I can’t believe how much the high end top-tier mountain bikes cost. More than my daughters car. :-)

I've got a "cheater" eMTB and I love it! 2020 Trek Powerfly 9.7 LT.

It's a lot of fun to go out on the trails on my backyard.

Yep. Of all the hazards on that particular trail, I wouldn’t have guessed that would’ve been what got me.

Stan’s Valor. Hardly sketchy. The wheel barely came out of true. I twisted the broken spoke around an adjacent one, and finished the ride. I had spares at home so I replaced it, trued it, touched up the tension, and I’m ready to go again.

If you walk into a bike shop and just ask for the most expensive stuff they've got, Stan's wheels might not be on your radar. Tires...that's the rubber part, right?
