Yep...consider yourself real lucky to find a particular bike you’re looking for nowadays.

A friend owns the local bike shop. He is frustrated, because right now he is almost immediately selling every bike he can get his hands on, but his vendors can’t keep up with the demand. The bottleneck is the supply from the bike manufacturers.

Yeah I was considering a last years Specialized Epic HT (SRAM XO1) size and color I wanted through an online vendor, at a significant discount... it's gone.

Trouble is I wanted to test ride an Epic frame locally, but even the Specialized dealer here has no inventory. I checked with two near me.

I did test ride the Santa Cruz Highball and it was pretty damn nice, but I did not want to make a final decision without trying the Specialized first... but even then, Santa Cruz in the level spec I would consider is not in stock. I'm trying to negotiate on the Demo bike which has been ridden on a trail twice... but really too much bike for me... It has the top of the line wireless shifting set up...which is nice but overkill for me. However...if they are willing come down on the price...

The sad part of that the majority of the bikes are made in CHINA or TAIWAN now a days with very few hand built in the USA....

Yeah, I certainly got really lucky!

I really wanted to buy from my local shop, but between them not having any stock for months, and the taxes being three times as much in Boulder where they are located, it just wasn't in the cards.

There are a ton of custom framebuilders here in the U.S., if you want to wait and you want to pay. It’s as bad as an AD waitlist. I know you’ve got the money, if you’ve got the time I can direct you to some of the best guys in the country. When it comes to carbon, I really don’t want a handmade frame. That is unless you consider the layup as “handmade.”

I would drop the dollar for the higher spec bike. When I bought my last bike, it was cheaper To go with their highest end build than it would have been to buy a lower grade and upgrade the wheels on my own. The AXS drivetrain is nice but, for God’s sake, don’t trash that derailleur.

I know plenty myself and with over 30 new bicycles and a few still unbuilt were good on bikes for awhile.. Wheel sets and bikes are not lacking at all...Were good one bikes, helmets, shoes and wheel sets...

Most riding for me is composed of cruises into town etc so I’m looking for a new Surly bridge club but I feel a mtb may be on the horizon as well....

I’ve been riding my regular mountain bike all day, and it’s hot and humid. I’ve got two hours left on my shift, so I’m playing with an e-bike now. They are a LOT of fun. Four speed and torque settings. Pretty easy to hit 30 mph on the MTB setting. I feel like a superhero climbing on it.

The other day I was riding on a fairly technical trail kicking some butt on my 20 year old bike, when all of the sudden I heard some riders behind me, I'm not judging but it was a man and wife (slightly heavy set, not obese, but not slim and trim bikers by any means) and they were riding my tail and I was like damn, how are they making this look so easy... I let them pass and thought maybe I really do need to update my bike with a FS 29er...

Well it turns out they were riding e-bikes... I heard someone mention them at the end of the trail...Wow!

Here are the 2 bikes I use for trail riding and cruising around. The blue one is a Kona process 153 the other is a Santa Cruz Carbon Chameleon 29er.

I just had my bicep re-attached so I rebuilt the Kona. I updated the fork to the new Charger 2.1 damper and installed the new Debonair air spring. I also upgraded the drivetrain to Sram X01 with a set of XX1 carbon cranks. I can’t ride for another 4 months so it gives me something to look forward to.

Then I have a YT decoy for my E-bike. This ones a beast it’s simply tons of fun. I can go out and cover 3 times the distance in the same amount of time as I would on a regular ride and still get about 80% of the workout. It’s great for exploring new trails because if it’s a dead end or a big climb I just hit the boost setting and I’m out.

Last one is a photo of me on my YT Capra that I just sold. I like the Kona more and could not justify keeping both.

Mountain bikes are fun. When my shoulder was healthy I was riding about 5 days a week. But I had a big crash and ended up needing my shoulder rebuilt. I can’t wait to be able to ride again.

Hey! I'm totally interested in an e-bike mountain bike. I'm very interested in what you think is a good one. I Plan to take it to Mammoth in the summers and ride it in San Diego in winters.
