TOP 5 BRANDS - What are your “Must Have” Watch Brands?

Very simple... What are your TOP FIVE “Must Have” watch brands?

NOT the industry’s best brands, or the most expensive, or the most luxurious, or whatever! The five brands you MUST have in your collection... period.

I’ll go first...

Rolex, Zenith, Omega, Breitling, Tag Heuer.

I've had Rolex, Zenith, Breguet, Breitlings, Omegas...

...but nobody ever mentions Ebel. BTR is one of my favorite watches of all time. At 45mm it's plenty big but not oversized. Superb quality and finish.

Rolex, Omega, Tudor, IWC, and H. Moser.

This will likely change over time.

Without owning any of them, the 6 that appeal to me the most so far are:

Omega
Breguet
Rolex
Grand Seiko
A Lange. Sohne
Hamilton

Runner ups:
JLC
NOMOS
and a handful of tiny independents in USA

TOP 5 BRANDS - What are your “Must Have” Watch Brands?

I’ll never spend more than $10k for a watch, so that’s a big factor for me. I’m excluding PP, AP, VC, ALS, FP Journe et al., because of that.

Rolex
Omega
JLC
Cartier
Breitling

I prefer to think in terms of specific references / watches that I'd love to have in my collection, not in terms of brands.

Top watches for me:

1. Rolex Daytona in platinum, 2. Patek Nautilus Moon phase, 3. AP Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar, 4. AP Royal Oak skeleton dial, 5. Rolex GMT white gold meteorite dial.

This is a heavy hitter list that I prob won't ever be able to acquire lol. Right now I am content with my SS Daytona C, GMT BLNR, and SS Submariner.

A more realistic, attainable collection of watches that I'd covet very highly:

1. Rolex Daytona SS white dial, 2. Rolex Daytona SS black dial, 3. AP Royal Oak Jumbo, 4. Rolex GMT BLRO, 5. Rolex GMT BLNR.

Personally, not a fan of VC, Omega, Panerai, or IWC. Omega tends to run a big too big and thick in terms of case size. VC has the history and is top quality, but not a fan of VC Overseas dial or the bezel. (to me they look weird). And Panerai, to me, are some of the ugliest watches I've seen, in addition to Hublot.

Cartier
Breitling
Great picks... and perfectly reasonable justification. Well done.

Some others seem to have issues with reading comprehension. Not following the rules doesn’t make you clever or funny. 😜

Own:
AP
Rolex
Panerai
Omega
Tudor

Future:
ALS (replacing ??? in top 5)

PP only interesting if there's a major upturn in personal finances - 5711 is somewhat cliché and 100k for a PM Nautilus safe queen is a bit much at this point.

Dress - Cartier (Santos Rose Gold)
Weekend/Gym - Tudor (Harrods Green) or Apple Watch
Sport - Rolex (SS Sub)
Business - Rolex (Datejust II silver dial)
Chrono - Tag Heuer (Monaco)

Steel Daytona could serve as a sporty chrono
Day date as business and dress
