In 2001, my wife bought a Tacoma Prerunner, which she loved, but recently, was ready for a new one, so she just got a 2020 Tacoma TRD Off Road.

I have a 2002 Tundra LTD TRD 4x4 that I bought new, imagining it would be my forever vehicle...a classic in the making.

As you know, both the Tacoma and Tundra have “grown” considerably over the years, so what I used to think of as my old “big” Tundra is almost the same size as my wife’s new Tacoma.

But I love my truck and the size is just right for me, while the new ones seem enormous.

I’ve considered going the Tacoma route, (since size-wise it’s similar,) but I’m not thrilled with the 6 cylinder engine. I’m used to the “gitty up and go” of the beefy 4.7 liter V8.

To me, my Tundra is an understated classic beauty! (Like my Submariner!)

Michael, thanks so much for sharing your fantastic story, and thank you for your service. Your personal journey is inspiring. I'm so glad you were able to find a mint condition 14060M. Most (if not all) members here will agree it is an all-around perfect watch, possibly one of the best ever made by Rolex. A few years ago, I too was able to find a 4-liner 14060m from another well-regarded seller here (Takuya). It is truly an outstanding watch and I couldn't be happier with it. Thanks again for sharing some of your 'back story' and for sharing your enthusiasm for this great watch. Kind regards, -Rick.

Great thread! For me the Sub is the classic go to watch, something I hope to get for my 40th in 8 years!

I'd also like a more classic version, really would love a 1680 red but ŁŁŁŁ. BB58 is the closest new thing I've found so far.

Thank you, N1KEN, rfiorito, Shadow Play, Nikrnic, Cambo, BLNR Nairobi, Rick_Nashville, andrewjb88, and RampageWatch for reading and taking the time to post your kind replies!

Rick, Nice to hear you also scored a nice 5 digit Submariner and are still enjoying it!

My Submariner remains my daily wearer and only watch. It's been a year and a half and I'm still as happy putting it on each morning as I was when I got it!

Nikrnic, I need to figure out a way to get you some frequent flyer points or something for your visits and warm words in this thread!!! Always great hearing from you!

God bless you all,

Michael

Gosh, I am surprised to see that it has been over four years since I got my Submariner!

This fantastic watch is still my "one and only" and I wear it every day.

As you can see, it still looks like the day I bought it. (What you can't see is that it is still as accurate, as well!)

I couldn't be happier with it!

Thanks again for everyone's information and input in helping me obtain this dream watch.

God bless you,

Michael

I can’t believe that I haven’t come across this thread previously. The passion you have for your Submariner is what this forum is all about. So refreshing to read a post that is rare to see in these times of so many people buying the hype, making purchases with the only consideration being future resale value, or trying to impress others.
Thank you for your service and for keeping such an inspirational thread going for so long. May you have many, many more years of enjoying that wonderful timepiece.

Ode to the Classic Rolex Submariner

Great thread! I'm definitely a Sub fan but prefer mine in Blue with a date. A bit more pizzaz. The photo is on Duck Key in FL last year when I bought this for a major milestone birthday!!! It's not that I don't like the traditional black, I just like the blue better.

Thank you Spellmanski, for the very kind compliment and for taking the time to post it.

Ricky Rolex, that's an fine example of the watch I was going to get, (minus the date) before I decided on the five digit. Nice Submariner!

Gosh, Daveh3196, I appreciate your warm message and taking the time to share it.

Brandrea, you've been with this thread from the start! It's so kind of you to keep dropping in over the years!

Thanks HogwldFLTR, your watch certainly has more pizzaz!

Thank you, Cougar1968! I'm really glad you enjoyed it!

It was fun taking a pic of this beauty again, after not having done so for some time. I used to have a smartphone and a dog and would usually be on a dog walk everyday at around 10:00 am, (perfect time for a watch pic!), so I used to take pics all over town with different backdrops. (Which led to my "Zoolander Calendar" thread to show off my watch's versatility!)

A couple years ago, I upgraded to a flip-phone and our dog has since passed on, so my "watch-picture-taking" hobby has gone by the wayside. However, I'll grab my wife's iPhone and snap one every now and then, just to keep my hand in!

Thanks again, guys and God bless you,

Michael

Hi Michael,
I read and commented on your first post, and have re read the thread a couple of times since.
Still one of my favorites on TRF.
Keep enjoying that classic Sub.
