If you want something new at an AD, I’d suggest a Patek 5227 or 5196p
If you want a a Rolex, I’d look for a a PM Daytona, or a Day Date 40 |

High end sports watch on rubber? I'd go AP diver, for half the budget.

I'd look at a Journe LineSport. Quirky, for sure, but great idiosyncratic watches, and fabulous in the flesh. If my wrists were a little bigger or it was a little smaller, I'd have one now.

A pattern I’ve learned in life is that compromise sometimes comes at a prohibitively expensive cost.
If you really like the watch, take the plunge but make sure you keep hold of it for a long time. |

Yes I was talking aftermarket. And I’m not really looking for great value. I was just trying to see what you could get new for the price of an aftermarket 5167a value. 5167a is great watch and if it still is in mid 30ks when I am ready, I might do it.

Yes. When it comes to buying a watch like PP, I won’t compromise on what I want.

This is a nice choice, and I also agree with the comment on the size.

As I mention, all hot timepieces alternatives you can't just walk into a AD and get them...... Plus all those hot timepieces alternatives go for more than suggested retail price on secondly market ....... OP should buy what he like end of story instead of looking for alternatives......

Faced the same choice - went with a 5205G-010.

msrp and market value are both very real things. msrp is also extremely expensive when you think about how much money you likely had to spend in order to "qualify" for getting one at MSRP. if you look at it a certain way, gray market might even be much cheaper. and while I could be wrong, it appears unlikely any of these watches will ever be available in greater quantities than they are now. which means market value is likely not going to change. I am in the same boat, debating the 5968a and I think I just convinced myself to pull the trigger.

why. might be a few bucks. But all these watches have good resale as long as they are not all scratched and dinged up.
