Vintage seamaster buying advice

HI guys,

I need help deciding on a vintage Seamaster!(Or a speedy but i don think the budget allows for that)

I am looking on behalf of a friend of mine that wants to surprise her man with a vintage watch (good girl!!! wish my woman felt the same...!)

I am Rolex man so am not too clued up on the Omega scene, but the requirements are:

  • Syle :Mens
  • Metal: No pref
  • VINTAGE : 40 or 50's max
  • Movement Pref: Auto better than Manual better than Quartz
  • BUDGET : UK £1600/2500 Au$
  • Should be Waterproof but not required to be divers grade

Could anyone please suggest me which references are likely to match my requirements?

Also can anyone reccomend any trusted vintage sellers in Australia?

Thanks a Million!

A few thoughts......

1) Seamaster is a Men's collection only in vintage years

2) Quartz wrist watches did not hit the market until the early 70's

3) Seamaster line began in the very late 40's

4) Vintage seamasters were originally "water resistant" but I would never trust any of them to full emersion in water. No divers grade Seamasters made until late 60's/early 70's

5) Educate yourself and review seamasters here:

a)Search "Omega Seamaster" on Ebay, "men's" "1940-1969" and look around there. Note reference and caliber numbers.

b) Google search "Omega Seamaster"

c) Take ref and caliber info from the Ebay and Google search to the Omega Corporate vintage home page and do the research directly from Omega records here:

Good hunting

Someone referred me to this site a while ago. Although He didn't have what I was looking for, he does have a lot of vintage items and is super pleasant.
