Looking for gift for a promotion

Hey all, I am tasked with looking for a Submariner for a promotional gift. A friend of mine is getting a big promotion and his spouse wants to get him a TT Blue Dial Submariner. Any idea what is a good year to get if you are getting pre owned? I was thinking one of the aluminum bezels vs the newer ceramic just due to the price point. Any suggestions? also, I have seen some of the older ones turn purple. I want to make sure it is a blue dial and not a purple one. Any suggestions on era and where to look would be greatly appreciated.....I have been watching the forums here too but have NOT see that many..........

6digit Bluesy is the more improved watch! A massive steel-gold Bracelet and a multifunctional clasp! Price about 12-15k.

If he’s a collector, he might appreciate the 5-digit model. For someone who’s not a collector, I think the 6-digit would go over better. It’s a great watch and in my opinion improved over the 5-digit model. A trusted seller like DavidSW would be a great route to go for pre-owned.

5 digit is classic and as good of looking as 6 digit. They don’t come in a “purple” color but the older models are more cobalt or twilight blue verses a medium blue. The color changes based on the light and has a starburst effect on the dial that shimmers.

Find a good seller like those on TRF and you cant go wrong.

I am partial to the 5 digit because of lug size, but never been a fan of the purple fade

5 digit. Much more proportioned and cleaner overall at a better price in my opinion. I’ve never seen one turn purple

Thanks. IMHO, bar none its the best blue of any Rolex and would argue, all brands. It was a perfect 10 out of 10 when created and still is an icon!
