On a first look, 5205 looks better due to the moonphase but I personally prefer 5905 due to the monochromatic look. The other difference is that 5905 is thicker so on the side 5205 looks better.

Had the 5205r-001 (white dial) and now have the 5905p-001(blue dial). Both watches are relatively thick and wear small due to the concave bezel which results in a smaller dial. The 5205r-010, having a black dial, wears even smaller in my opinion. I like the 5905p much better since it is a bigger watch (42mm vs 40mm), though the dimensions of the Datograph, 5070, and 5270 are even better in terms of dial diameter to watch thickness. If you want an annual calendar chrono the 5905 is nice; if just seeking a chrono I would lean towards one of the others.

5905 has the better looking dial in my eyes. Don't like the large 24h ring on the 5205. Just like the 5960s though the 5905 is a little too thick for my taste.

The 5905 is quite a bit more “masculine” in my eyes and you need the wrist size to pull it off.
The 5205 is beautiful and a little more elegant in my eyes. Love both the black and blue dial varieties. |

Hi....Sorry to resurrect an older thread...but doing some research on a 5205. This thread and another referenced a "smaller' wrist vs "larger" wrist. What is considered a small or large wrist? I have a 7 inch wrist. I always thought this to be average.
I have not yet tried a 5205 on yet but leaning toward white gold and either the black dial or the grey/slate dial. Need to see which is easier to read and the overall fit. Thanks in advance for the clarification.

5905 because better size and no center pinion ruining the subdial (or at least not as much)

5205 for me. 5905 just looks... Off. Too bloated. But as an existing 5205R owner, I am probably biased

5205r-010 vs 5905r-001
I have lost any interest in Annual calendars. But if you are deciding between these 2 AC’s , I can mention the pros and cons of these watches since I had own them both in the past ( 5205R black dial and 5905p black dial)
1) Love way better the case size and proportions of the 5905p , the feel in the wrist of platinum is hard to beat 2) Love the romanticism of a moon phase on a watch , in this case the 5205. 3) agree that the 12/24 indicator is a total waste and a laziness on patek. Don’t let people tell you that is useful because helps you when setting the time , totally not worth it. 4) you can argue that if you want a big watch get a ROO 44mm and save money instead of paying up for complications you don’t use with the sole intention to get a bigger/heftier case. 5) both watches have little lumen , 5960p is an alternative that has better lumen and its sportier than those 2, but unfortunately is discontinued. Good luck Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

5205 is a true beauty; 5905 doesn't have the right proportions.

5205 as I am a sucker for Moonphase and I think 30 minute chrono is a redundant

5205 for the win for me, overall a better case size and a more balanced dial layout with the lovely moon phase!
