At $5000-$5500 you should be able to source a solid end link.

Good for you for setting a goal, researching, saving up, and accomplishing. Post pics when you get it.

I think this post is spot on.

I hired a 22yr old kid once straight out of school who wore an old Air King he worked hard to acquire. I remember saying to myself, "The kid's got moxie".
He performed as I anticipated and I hated to see him move on and up. The Explorer is perfect.
Go for it!

I'd go with explorer 2 five digit, BUT, leave in a safety deposit box or with your parents the first two years of university as you will get severely wasted and have a good chance of losing it.

Started saving for my first Rolex when I was 16.. Back in 1986! Had my eyes on the Explorer II polar back then but went with a sub 5513 to save money LOL Work hard and save the money for your dream Rolex, Explorer II is one of my all time favorites!

Live in the moment and don't worry about what people think. If you've got your head screwed on straight (which it sounds like you probably do), spending your money on something you will enjoy for a long, long time is worth a few thousand. I wish I'd had the determination to save and buy something special when I was your age, but I blew it all on (cheap) booze, girls, and other crap I don't have anymore. I say if you're responsible enough to plan out your purchase at 17, you're not the type who is going to throw it away in the next couple of years.

Get the Explorer II, and let it help you guide your path for the rest of your life. Good luck.

16570 is a great watch , extremely comfortable , best SS Rolex in terms of bang for buck. Also not as popular as other models , You’ll stand out as your own man. Keep going kid , love to see a youngen on the rise ! Good luck !

Rolex in college is a bad idea; too many ways to lose it. Wait until you're done and have a real job.

Wow. Working at dominos in my opinion is a “real job”. Pretty crappy way of looking at things if you ask me. Keep going kid don’t let others get you down , keep moving forward with desire and belief.

Really, I'm pretty glad I was able to work my way through engineering school and get something that pays pretty well. Do you work for minimum wage btw. My son does due to his special need; it's no cake walk for him. I'd choose education and advancement every time over complacency and settling. The saddest thing about my son's situation is he's talked himself into believing that he's doing all he's capable of. Never in his life has he been willing to put off immediate gratification for his long term welfare. Yep, my attitude sucks. I'm pretty certain that the OP doesn't plan on working at Dominos for the rest of his life.

I disagree with much of the advice. Wearing a watch in college is fine. Buy it when YOU want, not when a bunch of older people tell you to. Best of luck.

Good for you! My interest in watches and cars began very young and I think it’s great to hear someone working hard toward a goal like this. Take your time, do your research and enjoy!

I'd go with the explorer 2.

When I was 17, even dollar I earned I spent it, no way in hell I would have been able to save for a down payment on a house. You have a clear goal, I say go for it, life is too short on worrying about losing it on college.

Keep saving. Why buy a Rolex now. Too much better uses for the money. When your income is much higher, as it will be, buy your watch. Best of luck to you.

If I was you I’d invest that money on a nice strat like a Suhr and something like a small Fender blues amp.

1. Girls
2. Learn a life skill
3. Suhr strat will probably do as well as the sub over time
4. You can buy a watch whenever you want but you’ll never get back the guitar time

To answer your question, the Explorer sounds like the way to go between the two.

Slightly amused at all the unsolicited life advice btw

I know...people just can’t help themselves!
Here we have what seems to be a hard working young man who has an interest in a harmless hobby and people want to talk him out of it.
