Cheers. We've always got room for more

You'll have to forgive the poor indoor lighting (and the carpet of my office ), but I just took a picture of the 126200 on my wrist, which again is right at 7". I tried to take the pic from a bit of a distance, since close-up wrist shots can be deceiving. I don't think it looks too small, I think it looks (and feels) right at home. Hope this helps.

I switched from a 41mm seiko daily to my 36mm DJ and it honestly felt small on my wrist for all of like half a day before I was used to it and now think it's just about perfect. I'm right around 7'' wrist.

But like others have said if it's felt too small for you why risk it just hoping you'll get used to it?

Do whatever you like. Until 2009 there was only one option. So I have a hard time saying that any guy who owned a Datejust from 1950's to 2009 was wearing a 'woman's watch'.

DJ36 owners feedback please and my dilemma.

A Dj36 is a nice watch but if I were to buy one again I'd get an older model as they are available at relatively deep discounts. For modern I'd go for the 39.5mm 41. I had a DJII which is a true 41mm which was a bit on the large size for my 6.5in wrist. I routinely wear my 36mm Day Date and feel very comfortable wearing it.

Dj 36

I had a choice between the DJ 41 and DJ 36 both with fluted bezels and I went with the DJ 36 as it fit my wrist better. Agree with others though if it doesn't scream at you from the start not sure you will grow to love it.

love the blue dial and it looks perfect. The thing about it 'feeling' right is very important.

That's the whole thing -- get the watch that "sings" to you, as the saying goes. This entire hobby is very illogical -- we pay thousands of dollars for something that is completely obselete by modern technology and has been for years, yet we love it. Don't buy the watch you feel like you should get by any logical metric, because you'll regret it. Get the watch you love, the one that grabs you.

DD40 is where I would go if funds allowed. I am very sensitive to anything over 40 but anything 40 and below I'm all in.. Yours looks great.

It's a bit of a guilty pleasure on visits home. 20 years since I lived in the UK but do miss the small things. The use of language, humour, piss taking etc in the UK in general if something that is very special.

If you are use to wearing bigger watches then the 36mm will feel small at first and will adjust accordingly. I felt that way but the more I wore the 36mm, the more I realize it is more proportional for me. I have both the DJ36 and BLNR on a 6.5" flat wrist.

7.5inch wrist here and just picked up the new DJ36 126234. I LOVE IT!!! Perfect size for this kind of watch. Classic.

Also, picked up a OP34 white dial 114200 a couple months after getting the DJ and love that too. The size of the lugs make it look/feel much larger than 34mm.

I get a lot of compliments on both watches and people complement me on the size, a return to more "normal" sized watches. They say both look very classy.

FYI I'm a 35 year old male and 6'2''. Again, no way 36mm is too small.

Good post. And a just a quick FYI if you're curious -- the 114200 actually measures almost 35mm, it's something like 34.9mm with a digital caliper. Add in the thicker lugs and it really wears almost exactly like a new 36mm 1262xx DJ or a vintage DJ (I'm leaving out the 1162xx line because the lugs were thicker).

The reason I know this is my wife has a 114200 and I'm contemplating getting one for myself, and I noticed how similar it looked and felt to a new DJ36, so I decided to meausre it. I have a 7" wrist and love the way the 114200 wears, it's a great watch, and not a bit too small at 34mm. Plenty of presence.

Its whatever you like that matters. The big watch thing is to have a watch which covers the entire top of the wrist with little or no band showing. The 36mm and smaller accent the bracelet or band as well as the watch. Just personal preference. No right or wrong.

If you feel it looks too small then its too small. I had a 36mm DJ for many years that I liked for the first year but afterwards felt was too small, I ended up wearing it maybe 4 times in the following 8 years. My Sub ended up on the wrist the most of the time.
Go with what makes you happy, dont try to convince yourself that something will grow on you.

I’ve had to adjust to many watches. Whether it was 43 Sea Dweller for the first few days. Or a 47mm Panerai. Or whether it’s the strap of a Panerai over the oyster bracelet.

We’re human and change always takes getting used to. The question is whether it is what you consider “good getting used to” or not.

But in the end, everything always turns out okay because... well... because I got used to it.

BTW, try it on.
Photos are misleading.
Here is a different angle, more realistic shot of a DD40 on a 6.5” wrist.
36mm felt tiny by modern day standards.

I have an 8" wrist, and I've been happily wearing 36 mm watches for decades. For most normal people, 36 mm watches are completely standard, attractive pieces. We tend to have a distorted view here in the watch community.

In the past few years, I've gotten into the watch hobby, and suddenly I'm wearing the 39-42 mm range, along with a few 45ish bright rubber gshocks for when I need a bulletproof beater and feel like having fun with a cartoonishly ugly watch. When I switch back to a 36, it does feel odd at first - but it feels great, and then it feels completely normal.

The truth is that even 40 mm is a large watch for any man's wrist, and it's probably oversized for most mens' wrists in most situations. We just don't see it because we live in an age where fashion dictates that oversized watches are normal. Eventually it will be like looking back at pictures from the 70s and laughing at the big bell bottom pants.

There's nothing wrong with a 36 for your wrist. It will never look out of place.

What size watch do you usually wear?

I used to only be into big watches... 45mm+ watchesw like Panerais, Breitlings and Omega POs.
Never wanted a Rolex before because I felt 40mm was too small.

When I first got my 116710, it took a few wears to adjust to the smaller dimensions, but once I got used to it, I preferred the smaller size.
It's now gotten to the stage where I actually prefer smaller watches, which is why I bought the DJ36 last year.

I have similar sized wrist to you at 6.75 and don't think it looks too small at all.

Regardless, you will adjust to the size imo

My SS 36mm DateJust looks nice on my 7 1/2 wrist. Along with my SS Submariner Date. Two classic Rolex watches. Anything thing bigger than 40mm is not my cup of tea. Less is more in my book.

6 5/8" wrist. 36mm DJ in rotation with others from 34mm to 44mm.

Love the hidden clasp and roulette date wheel on my 116234 white dial.

Clearly a subject that is “personal” but funny how a so called 40mm Daytona and a 40mm Sub are by far the most popular watches on this forum yet there is such a divide from those on the 36mm DD side to realize the 40mm version is in fact the perfect modern interpretation.
Things that make you go hmmm...

My rational and emotional responses to various watches are not always "in sync." I'm considering adding a DJ to pair with my SubC, which is currently my only Rolex. I have small wrists (not more than 6.5 inches) but I'm underwhelmed when I try on a DJ36. I tell others and myself that the DJ36 is the perfect size for my wrist but, truthfully, I can't convince myself that I'd be happy with the DJ36. I am much happier when I try on a DJ41 even though it's not the logical choice. Neither rational nor emotional arguments have yet "won" this battle so I've not yet bought a new DJ. But, if I had to choose today I would choose the emotionally pleasing DJ41.

Its the 'try on' time that is too short for me, you only get a few minutes to form an opinion in the AD. The mind can play tricks, you have to go with your instinct BUT, I will give you an example. I bought a SUBC, looked great in the AD. I was very happy, then about 1 month into ownership I thought it was too chunky, its 40mm which 'should' be perfect. I sold it for a 5 digit which has proved to be a better fit for me and that one is not going anywhere.
