What’s the game plan for 2020?

1) Trying to figure out whether I need a FP Journe (Had a CB for a while)
2) Trying to figure out if I need a 5212a. It might come down to 5212a versus a journe.
3) Need to downsize back to 12. I am at 14 right now (Red dial GS + another 5711 geneve seal blue in service).
4) Thinking if I need to lose the 3712 and just have 1 Nautilus.
4) PM Rolex coming to mind. Day date comes to mind. Trying to figure out which one.
5) Might blow a few Gs on straps for the Offshore, Patek 5170P, Code and others etc and just stay there.
6) Just said no to a brand new Code 1159 Perpetual Calendar (with the Aventurine blue dial) at msrp. I think the 3 hander stays versus anything else.
7) On the list for 15500 blue and VC 4500V - what to do when they come in?
8) The Ceramic Perpetual Calendar and the openworked ceramic have me intrigued. Perhaps if one comes at MSRP? :)

What’s the game plan for 2020?

I want to get my brother anOyster Perpetual 39 for his wedding this summer and I am currently hot for a Grand Seiko SBGK005.

At some point I do want to pick up a steel Santos in the small size and would love to get a Patek 6000g but feel like I should wait on the Patek. I moved fast and furious when I got into watch collecting and feel like I need to take my time it isn’t about just trying to get to the top floor I want to enjoy the journey and let my collecting evolve.

I keep wanting to reduce my collection and just go with 2-3 pieces but I really love every piece I have so don’t feel like I can make that move right now. With that said I really don’t want to have a growing collection either so not sure what the answer is

I have a 5740g. I don’t want to wear it for international travel. So I am look for a simple watch to travel with. I am thinking about either 5711a or AP 15202st jumbo. Could you give me some advice on my 2nd watch in 2020? Thanks.

5164. A very under-the-radar watch and the travel time function is easy, intuitive and perfect for international travel.

5164R flies right under the radar and easier to get than the 5164A, if you can't get that.

I'd also say 5990 but I can't get that, so I haven't flown around with that on.

For me, status quo in 2020. No new purchases planned. 2019 I spent enough.

Bought a Audi Etron for my wife.
Bought a Q3 for my daughter.
Built a golf simulator in my house.
Got a 5968 for myself.
Added a Ferrari Pista to the garage to complement the Mclaren.

Unless something catches my eye at Baselworld, I’m content.

By car collection you mean money pit?? :)

I’ll get my ass handed to me come sell time on the Mclaren 720 but it’s such a freaking amazing car that I don’t care. The Pista is currently selling over msrp but we shall see how long that lasts. Overall I think I’ll get my money out on the Pista if I ever decide to sell it. Might be my first forever car.

Now this is a great thread. The tentative plan is to build a relationship with an AD and get on *a* list for the 5711. I nearly pulled the trigger on a VC 4500V but the 5711 lust is strong...

Here’s a question for the more experienced: When can I reasonably expect to actually be placed on the list? After spending $5,000? $20,000? $50,000? More? I realize it’s a long road ahead.

I have a guaranteed 5164a for 2020 and and would like a 5712/1a to pair it with, which I'm working on.
If given the option to buy either one (but just one), I remain uncertain which will I choose.

Wanted to get the wife a new watch too, was thinking of the diamond bezel automatic twenty4, but she somehow immediately preferred the quartz model so we might get that.
Lucky me, more money for my watches.

Staying hopeful for: FPJ CB (if my AD can get one)
Need a major business win as an excuse for: 5524 / FPJ vagabondage III / 15202OR
A few drinks over lunch and a sunny afternoon will convince me it is fine to pick up: DJ36 on jubilee; JLC reverse tribute burgundy dial

Somewhere along the way I would like someone to tell me they can get me a 5167a at retail, but that might be 2021-2.

I am on the list for a 5167 who I declined 2 years back after a burglary, but maybe I will ask if it is easier to get the 5164a or even R what the possibilities are.
